What is the difference between Drontal and Milbemax

Another Milbemax here from the vets £3.25, I'm not sure we have a choice ?

Anyhow Oska has been fine on it, no problems.

SaffIWestie sent the night in the emergency vets after Drontal flavour....she is absolutely fine on Milbemax!

I use Milbemax on Rupert no problems at all, used Drontal on my Goldie and she was really ill with diarrhoea.
I get all my wormers from the vet.

Milbemax here too and we've never had any problems. I get it from the vet, it's about £4 per tablet every 6 months.

I have had no problems with drontal at all, its the only one I've used for Flo! 

I get mine from vetuk  ( http://www.vetuk.co.uk/index.php?main_page=page&id=10&chapter=0) they also do panacur both without prescription, and  milbemax with a  prescription .

You don't need to get it from your vet. They are now legally obliged to give you a prescription if needed that you can take elsewhere !  The vet uk site gives all the information.

Incidentally  Lloyds (human) pharmacies now stock a range of prescription medicines for animals !

Milbemax for Betty too.
I get it from the vets every 3 months.
It used to cost around £3, but as from the end of last year, I've been paying £8.50  Bit of a hike!
She only has the one tablet.....I think for 10kg - 20kg.

Mine  usually both have Milbemaxwith no problem, at about £4.50 a pop.  Our vet recently gave Millie Panacur instead as a one-off because her bum was playing up a bit.   He was a bit concerned she had ingested giardia (sp?) from drinking from the becks and, with a lot of rats around the farmyards, there was a fair chance of water-borne parasites.  Apparently, it's the only one that zaps them all.  Dunno if that's right but it's worked.  But we'll be back to Milbemax next time because what it did to her rear end initially was enough to put me off breakfast for a week.

depends how you want to worm - I don't do preventative worming or flea/tick treatments - I treat when I feel there is a problem.  I also don't have kids which if I did would most likely change my thoughts on this.

After all they could very well give Jarv fleas or worms....  (just kidding  )

As Helen said it's really dependent on how often you want to do it. I do mine every 6 months (ish, I usually forget so in reality it's more like every 7-8 months!) but if any of them were habitual scavengers or poo eaters I may do them more often.

I routinely worm every three months, partly because of lil'bit, but more because healthy adult dogs can carry worms and be symptom-free; yet they can still pass them on to dogs that come into contact with places they have poo'd - and puppies/old dogs can be badly affected by worms
