To think of it i asked the vet about his ears on his 2nd injection because id noticed he tilted his head as scratched it alot, and she told me to leave his ears and not to maul them as i risk making them worse.  Maybe it is the infection/disease in his inner ear?? I think that would be the best outcome?

Thats something I would definitely explore!

Hoping all the best for  little Charley  :luv:
My first thought was that it could be due to an ear infection. The symptoms are what you describe.

http://www.vetspecialists.co.uk/06_Animal_Welfare/Neurology_Facts/Vestibular_Syndrome.html

This link above that someone on here gave me yesterday describes his symptoms exactly. Seems so severe for an ear infection, but hopefully it is his ear and the medication will clear it up and we can all go back to normality? Iv been watching him like a hawk this morning and im still not showered or dressed  ::) my partner says i need to stop it im making myself paranoid by watching his every move, and i know hes right, im just scared his going to collapse again and hurt himself in the process.

I gave him some sardines last night, and he certainly does like them, im sure i seen him wink at the cat while licking his lips  :005:

I think the vestibular syndrome described in the link sounds very similar to what is labarynthitis in humans (I've had this twice, and the first time I could even walk down the stairs safely!!!).  Whether or not they're identical, I don't know, but it is certainly the same kind of thing.

Hopefully, as Charley is "only" getting this occassionally and not constantly, then it could be more likely to be something treatable causing it, such as an infection or inflammation.  I hope your vet manages to get to the bottom of whatever is causing it!!!  :-*

I wouldn't have thought banging into the cupboard would have caused the kind of head trauma that the article was talking about - the examples they gave are being in a car accident or of big fall - so don't start feeling that you (or your OH) have caused this in any way.  It may have been a trigger, but I very much doubt this would be a cause.  :-*

Hes constantly banging into things, hes just banged his head jumping up to me on the kitchen chair  >:( I dont know how i can protect him any more than i am doing? We've banned tugging and running about, and we havnt taken him out at all today just incase. I cant think of anything what brings it on? Or whether it was the medication from Monday night wearing off?
But i must say on a happier note we're slightly relieved that we at least know what is causing it.  My partner had a bad ear infection last year and he said it is just awful, and says he totally sympathises with our Charley chops!  :luv: :luv:

Is he up to doing training?  Just thinking that this might help tire him out and make him less likely to go looking for trouble!!!   :luv:
The medication wearing off may be having an impact - some medicines do stay in the system for a very long time.

To be honest with you he was lively this morning until i gave him his tablets and hes been dosey since, hes taken himself off to bed a few times now.  Im just keeping it all calm and relaxing in the house for him.  Bless him you wouldnt think he was only 12 weeks old!  :luv:

Something has been niggling at me today - if it does turn out to be some kind of ear infection, does anybody know where he could have caught it from? I mean the causes?

Sorry to hear Charley is still being sorted and hopefully a positive resolution on the way.  Did you get Charley from a breeder - if so do you have your 6 weeks free insurance from them?  If you got Charley from a breeder and didn't get your certificate it might be worth trying to ring them again??

Charley isnt KC reg! Im going to have a look through his papers in a minute and see what iv got with him.  You know hes been scratching his ear all day - im annoyed that the vet fobbed me off when i told her about his ear 2 weeks ago, maybe if shed taken any notice charley and us wouldnt be going through this and be over £200 lighter in the pocket.

What a nightmare  ::)  I hope that you have the free pup insurance.

I also hope that it's 'just' an ear infection thats easily cleared up.

Still sending (((hugs))) to you  :luv:

Just an update on Charley, weve been back to the vets again today.  The vet has definitely ruled out vestibular syndrome because his eyes dont flicker from side to side, they go upwards which indicate the problem is in the brain.  They said to keep him on these tables for 4 weeks to see if whatever he has corrects itself, otherwise apart from paying for a scan on his brain (no insurance) there would be little they could do for him.  Hes been fine on these tablets and its a week tomorrow since he had his funny turn.  Hopefully hel be fine once he comes off them?? Il certainly be a bag of nerves when he does.

Im pleased theres a bit of light at the tunnel, il let you all know how we go on!  :D

Oh poor you my heart sank and i got all goose pimply when i read about charleys misfortune.  My heart goes out to all of you and i will be waiting for what i hope will be some good positive news.  I can only begin to imagine the range of emotions you are going thru at the moment but what i can say is if the power of thought is anything to go by then little Charley will bounce back because i know the entire COL are thinking of you today.

Keep positive

Ive just sat and read through all of the posts on this thread. it certainly sounds like you've been through one hell of a rough ride. I truely hope that everything sorts itself out and that you'll soon have your little pup back to his old self. Thoughts are with you, just make sure you keep your head up when your with him, my dog can always sense when im down and then he gets all sad.

Thinking of you and Charley,

Laura and Baggie xxx

What a nightmare of a time you have had. I do think you should name and shame the breeder who sold Charley to you. All your hear ache - Atleast the weather has picked up so all cocker lovers can get out and mingle and cheer the world up..

Wishing you some sunshine of your own for Charley.
