The vet thinks he must have had the virus for 7 to 10 days before it came out so agressively, which means he must have had it when we picked him up. We only had him from Monday night to Thursday lunch time before he went to the vets.
We have been in touch with the breeder with the bad news, but don't know how to tackle the issue as you can never be 100% sure what made him so ill, and the breeder is upset too.
She has offered us another of the same litter, a little girl who is still with her. I am not ready for this, and want to bring this to a close and have some time to come to terms with what has happened. I am also very wary about bringing any other pups in our house now, so will leave for a few months I think.
I really don't know where we stand on asking for help with vets bills or anything from the breeder. Money really isn't an issue, but I feel it is the principal of getting support from the breeder that is key here, and we have had no hint of any help in discussions so far.
