Foot problems ....
« on: June 18, 2010, 04:28:55 PM »
Over the last few weeks Sweep has been limping on her front right leg.  After visits to vets and Metacam today she had some xrays to see if there was an underlying problem.  She will be 3 in September.

Well it seems that the toes of her front feet never formed properly and all her weight is being borne by her two middle toes.  As a result she has deposits on either side of her toe bones which the vet thinks is causing her pain and thus limp.

OH picked her up from the vet and she has given her some tablets (don't know what they are yet) which will help.  I think she is going to be on some sort of medication to help with this condition for the rest of her days and of course arthritis may well set in earlier than might be expected.

Obviously we are upset at the moment to think of our baby being in pain and the long term implications but we want her to have as normal a life as possilbe - she is so loving and sweet and so enjoys playing and running.  :luv:  :luv:

have any other COL'er had any experience like this or could give us some advice on ongoing care etc.
