rectum mass

My cocker just turned 9 the other day he is still very very active but over the last 2 weeks he has been straining to do the toilet he is still passing full poos no blood or anything so we took him to the vet and he said he could feel a mass in his rectum he has referred us to the small animal hospital in Glasgow this Tuesday at the oncology clinic my wife and i are so upset but hopefully they can put him right he hasn't lost any weight and is still eating and drinking the same amount as he always does has any one seen this before

I have a friend whose dog has just had a tumour taken away from the same place.  Thankfully it was benign.
