1st whimper
« on: February 15, 2011, 06:39:00 PM »
Darcey has been settling at night etc. Like a little star. Have been able to leave her sleeping in her crate and pop to the supermarket unnoticed. This pm I put her in her crate whilst we ate. She whined for a couple of minutes but settled herself!! Really proud of her. Think we're going for the 1st night downstairs tonight. Fingers crossed!

Hope she's a good girl for you. With Wispa I put a blanket over the top of her crate after closing the door, and touch wood, so far she's been fine in it every night. The last 3 nights she's gone from about 9.30pm (let out around 12pm for a wee) and then got me up at 6.30 - 7am.
They soon get used to routine.

Once. But she had no probs in our bedroom. Have reconfigured crate with paper area tonight and will set alarm to pre empt any accidents.

If shes sleeping happerly in your room you could try a covered crate in your room. Once shes used to a covered crate I found my dogs are happy for their crate to be located whereever I choose. I know its a step back but sometimes its a good to take a mini step back before trying to move forwards again

Alternatively try her the other side of your bedroom door that way she cant see you but will still be able to hear you and know that shes ok.

Good luck

This sounds like a cracking idea - we have found that both ours can sleep very soundly anywhere in their crates as long as the crate is covered  :D.

Little steps eh?  Good Luck.

Good plan. Might give it 1 more bash in the kitchen tonight if no improvement it's back to the bedroom.

I agree about covering the crate. That way they don't know that you're not there. However, I agree with Sarah1985, as you started her off sleeping in the bedroom, I'd suggest perhaps having her in the crate in your bedroom for one more night, with the crate covered, before trying her again in the kitchen with the crate covered.
