Hello from a prospective cocker owner
« on: September 09, 2011, 04:34:12 PM »
Hello, I just thought I better introduce myself as I will probably be loitering around the forum for a while. I'm Sophie, living in East Anglia and owned by Cadbury a chocolate labrador (3 & 1/2yrs) and Merlin a blue merle Shetland Sheepdog (nearly 9 months), both lads do obedience and Cadbury does agility and has just qualified for our club display team. Merlin will be starting agility basics in a few weeks time.

The reason I am here is because I am an agility-nut, Cadbury has been my practice dog (and he has been a BIG challenge at times, lol!), I hope to compete with Merlin when he is old enough and, being a forward planner (I planned Merlin's arrival for 2 years) I am now thinking ahead to pup number 3. I have been looking into good agility breeds and I have become very torn between another sheltie or a working cocker.

As a child I was in love with a blue roan cocker my friend's family sometimes dog-sat, he was adorable and since then I have always wanted a spaniel in my life. Until quite recently I was not aware of the show/working differences, but since becoming aware I have fallen for working spaniels, especially with their drive and enthusiasm. I see quite a few do well at agility on here.

My broodiness for a cocker was made worse on Saturday when two 19week working pups came to my training club for a social afternoon and I spent far too long nattering to their owners. lol

Well anyway, that's me. I'm on here to learn and decide whether a cocker is really for me and then we shall see. Nice to meet you all.

i've got a show cocker and in my opinion they are just as good as workers for agility.  In fact the majority of cockers i have seen competing are show.

Hi we have a 1/2 worker 1/2 show who's 9 and she's still mental! And still very very active although she does like to spend her day snoozing  :005: a worker or show would be perfect for agility.
