We brought Riley home on the saturday and saw the vet on the monday, when I booked him in a couple of weeks earlier nothing was said BUT when I took him to the vet after  having him for two days they said they prefer the pup to settle for a week or so before visiting. I think its also for the fact they want the owners to get to know the dog too.

Is your pup coming with a puppy contract....... When my pups left here for their new homes they had a puppy contract and amongst other things on it one of the things was that..... I had taken the pup to the vet to be fully health checked in the past couple of days and that I advised the new owner to register and visit their vet within the next 5 working days and if their vet found anything that my vet had missed that would deem the pup unfit for sale then I would take the pup back and refund in full..... I also put this as it encourages the new owner to register their new pup with a vet instead of waiting till they NEED a vet. ( all my pups went to friends but I still made them sign a contract ;) )

I do exactly the same

we went a few days after, wasn't free though :O spent it asking questions, bought some flea stuff ect & wanted her weighed. Most of all the vet needed to take a photo for her profile- which she looks very cocker sad eyes in. She loved cuddles from the staff  :luv:

I've registered the puppy with our vet, but when I tried to book a visit for the day after we collect him, they said there was no need??? Even though I explained why etc, she was quite insistent that I wouldn't need to take him until 2nd vaccination.

Feeling quite put out! Maybe I'll register with another vet, annoying though as this is the one we normally use.

That definitely seems a bit odd. Surely they would want you to take the pup in for a full health check as soon as possible? What happens if there is something (god forbid) wrong?

We were advised to wait a few days but the vet was happy to see them and register them at that time before the 2nd jabs were due.  I think we did have to pay the consultation fee though even though.

We go within a week for a little check up, and for the vets to have a cuddle,
then go back for vacs  ;)

Charlie already had his 2nd Jabs when I got him. I think I waited a week or a week and a half. Just for a general check up.

Yep, that's what we did with Bingley! I think he went a day or so after he came home, just to be weighed and have a once over. Glad i did as the majority of his appointment was cuddles from vets and nurses, and a couple of treat from them. When we went back for vacs it wasn't a double whammy of an unfamiliar place and an uncomfortable experience. Good for socialisation too i guess!
