No its not normal for a stranger to ask how much you paid for your puppy  :o
Nowt as strange as folk though!  ph34r :005:
I met this man earlier today when i was out with Jo Jo & Georgia....we got chatting, he seemed completely normal to me but he then picked Georgia up  :o  which to me is a big 'no no' with other people's dogs esp. if they are complete strangers  :o

Funnily enough I was talking to a woman in town the other day who quite happily told me how much her cavalier king charles spaniel cost and now thinking about it it was quite random I'm thinking maybe he was her first pedigree and she wasn't expecting the price or was looking for another dog lover to agree he was worth it  :005:

People are so rude, I wouldn't dream of asking how much people have paid for anything.
Did you get your puppy locally? You live in the same town as me, not so sunny Southport today!!

I'd never dream of asking a total stranger how much they paid for a dog! Or anything else for that matter!

I think if I'm ever in that position again I will go down the fiver route.

CDPOPS, It's not so sunny eh. I don't think it has stopped raining since yesterday  >:( I had a little trip to the beach planned today   :'(

That really is just blatantly rude!!
I agree with an earlier post, say a fiver and then ask how much her coat was!!

It's weird how obsessed people are about money. I've never been asked how much a pup cost but at every wedding I get asked how much my harp cost. I usually put on a very serious face and say "more than my house". That's a fib by the way  :shades: but it tends to make them back away and stop strumming on the strings with their grubby fingers.  >:D

I'm always getting asked how much I paid for my dogs. I just say I paid what anyone would for a pedigree. Then follow it up with the fact that they cost next to nothing to feed which seems to satisfy most folk, but it amazes me how complete strangers will ask such a personal question. I have never even told my husband how much they cost.....................but then he's never asked :005: :005: :005: :005:

I've been asked by a couple of people - basically quite dodgy-looking men, and I didn't tell them, as I suspected that they might at some future point try to steal the dog (not difficult to see someone's patterns on a local common over a few days). Normal strangers would just not ask. Some of my friends and family probably asked, out of interest (as in, how much does a puppy cost these days), but strangers - nah! Soooo not appropriate  >:( If anyone asks again I'll tell them that he was pretty cheap as he has all sorts of health issues so really expensive vets bills (hopefully won't be jinxing my baby's health, but will put off anyone who's thinking of half-inching him!). There has been a dog-theft near me recently, so I think my paranoia is justified.

So I don't think you over-reacted by feeling pissed off with this woman's question.

The only people I have told was family. People have never asked how much he cost but do say I bet he cost a few bob and as I say considering what people want for these so called designer dogs, which when i was younger would have been called a mongrel I think he is worth every penny

The only reason I've made enquiries to people (never on a public forum) is because I've never owned a cocker and didnt know what you expect to pay for one. I've seen everything from 300 to 800 having done some research so it's been useful to know 'am I being conned, is this price too good to be true?' or the opposite 'am I being overpriced as a rookie?,'
