Hamish Still Bleeding - Should I Take Him In Again
« on: April 15, 2005, 03:59:45 PM »
I can't get it to stop, every time it clots it stops for a wee bit, then starts again. The vet mentioned this morning that some spaniels can have a lack of clotting agent, Im wonderfing if this is the sae with Hamish.

He keeps swallowing it so I can't accurately tell how much there is, but im worried. I think im going to phone the vet.

Yes Phone! You won't rest until you do. I'm sure the vet will have some good advice.

Hugs from us too.

Oh Shona - it's just like having a new born baby in the house!!  :o

I would give the vet a call, he won't mind you asking his opinion about something like this!

Keep us posted!

Hi I think I would phone the vet for reassurance this afternoon before you hit out of hours times. It maybe that the vet will want ot see Hamish again but hopefully he/she can sort things out over the phone. What a worrying time. I hope he gets better soon.

Thinking of you

Jane

Yes, I've phoned the vet and he's phoning me back. I spoke to the emergency nurse at the hospital branch, and she said she reckons he'll need to come in, but I'm just sitting on the phone waiting to hear it from the vet.

He's absolutely covered in it, I washed him down earlier, but it's all over him again and he's stinking to high heaven - they'll be so delighted to see us in that state

His tongue is covered in bright red blood, and it seems to clot ok then just start again. Since I last posted, it's stopped for a minute, then back full strength, thanks for your support over phoining, one of those times when you panic and need someone to tell you what to do!

I'll update later, thanks all of you xxxx

Yes I had to take him into the hospital as it got worse. He's been kept in, and the vet who examined him is concerned about his liver. He also has a heart murmur, apparently, poor baby.

He's being sedated, so she can examine the wound, and put some stuff on it to stop, and doing bloods she'll phone me before 10 tomorrow.

I'm really upset - off to pour myself a double vodka, the house is too quiet.

Oh Shona, I'm so sorry.

Try to get some rest tonight. He's in the best place, you wouldn't have felt able to
leave him for a minute overnight if he was at home.

Is this the first you have heard about the heart murmer? It's not always significant - hope that's the case with Hamish.

Let us know how things are in the morning.
