Title: Hind leg splayed out on sit
Post by: tritonx on April 29, 2023, 03:21:25 AM
Jamie is now 6 months. I noticed a while ago that when he sits, his right hind leg is splayed out. Seems to me it came on suddenly, wasn't the case before. He doesn't seem to have any problem in his gait or signs of discomfort or pain. And I realise pups are have loose ligaments while still growing. Is this anything I should be concerned about as a sign of potential hip displasia?

Hopefully it is nothing, but best to get a vet to have a look at him to make sure. ;)

Wonder if it may be the way the breed sits...Ollie used to have a way of sittin flat with both front legs wide apart almost V shaped, never had any front leg problems or showed weakness till the arthritis in old age which comes to us all. As for the hips would mention to vet - just so as you can be sure.

Hugs to Jamie

Humphrey sits like that since he had his back operation, the leg that’s splays is the one he’s got the nerve damage in. It may be nothing at all  but probably be worth mentioning next time you’re at the vet.
