been to out of hours vet , she thinks hes got an abscess, cause unknown, hes had painkillers and antib jab. hes feeling poorly and has a temperature. hes to go back in 2 days or tomorrow if worse.hes been bitten by an adder in the past but dont think this is an adder bite, but time will tell, it could be an insect bite or sting, or a root abscess of a tooth. poor wee man. he will probably need sedation to let the vet have a really good look once anti bs get swelling down as he was very uncooperative to say the least. what a wriggler, he leapt about like a fish on a hook and was not about to let her look in his mouth without a struggle.brat dog.( he didnt growl or anything just leapt about like a lunatic and was not at all willing to be helpful) its a shame tho as hes such a good wee man normally, hes just feeling crap.fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed it is just an insect bite or sting. Archie found his first adder yesterday. It was coiled and ready to strike. Scared the bajeesus out of me. They are definately about at the moment.

My cats get abscesses quite regularly - usually from being caught by a claw I think >:( They always clear up quickly once the a/b's get working ;)

its gone down a lot already and his eye is back in the right place. it looked like it was bulging out and being pushed inwards like a squint. vet was also worried that the infection was behind the eye so its a huge relief to see him not looking like something out of a horror film. I stayed up with him last night. so all being well no vets today back tomorrow.hes still not keen on eating anything firm, hes still sore obviously, so hes had eggs and milk and chicken mince this morning! he ate that, slower than usual but still scoffed it. maybe he has a root abscess but his teeth are in fab condition. vet also mention it might be an extreme severe infection of the 3rd eyelid .whatever hes improving, whew!

well its been a few weeks and no sign of the abscess returning thank goodness!, it was the vet now thinks an intraoccular eye abscess. rather nasty and difficult to treat as the infection is so deep rooted. So it looks good fingers crossed. the vet hadnt ruled out a tumour of some description with a secondary infection , however if it was that he thought when a few weeks had passed it would flare up again. the wee lumps (? glands) he could still feel at the time he thought were up because of infection , however if it does flare up again hes for biopsies. So fingers crossed all is well!

I'm glad he's better :luv: Elmo had a swollen face 2 years ago. The vet gave him a couple of injections and it all cleared up, it must have been an insect bite.
