We were told that spaniels have a tendency for the  "tubes" to be misaligned  causing the "gunk" unable to find correct exit.  This is the problem we had with our Gemma. Eventually causing them to burst. She had hers removed in the end

My boy does get anal gland problems occasionally but sometimes he scoots because his bottoms got furry and it must get a bit itchy. Usually if I trim around it gets better.

Health / Lipfold dermatitis

Dylan has had this for a while, I have been keeping on top of it with diluted Hibiscrub and steroid cream, but it never goes away. Vet has suggested surgery, and wondering if anyone has had it done, and was the result good?

In Memoriam/Rainbow Bridge / Morgan my soulmate
« Last post by ElaineH on March 07, 2024, 12:52:48 PM »
19/06/2008 - 03/03/2024
Almost 16 years old, he went peacefully over the rainbow, resting his handsome head on my hand as he slipped away, breaking my heart as he left us. Ever the joker he even managed to make us smile that day as he peed copiously on the vet's floor while his Dad was carrying him!
Rest easy my son, you leave a huge hole behind you xxx

Just a thought you could try the Pet Remedy calming plug-in for when you go out and at other times you may feel it will help,  :luv:

https://petremedy.co.uk/product/pet-calming-plug-in-diffuser/

If you do decide it might help, have a look at prices on other sites - you may get a better deal

There are other similar ones like Adaptil which could be just as good.

General Cocker Spaniel Discussion / Re: RIP Morgan

Thank you all for your kind words, they help a lot.
Our other dog Hugo is coping well without his uncle, in fact he seems quite relaxed as he was often overwhelmed by Morgan's more exuberant personality. Our regular vet called Morgan "a true force of nature"  :005:  We're not sure yet how Hugo will feel when we have to go out as he's had cat and dog company all his life until now so never completely alone (we lost our 2 cats last year)
All will be well in the end I'm sure but I miss my big, bossy boy so much right now.

General Cocker Spaniel Discussion / Re: WCS "Oversharing?"
« Last post by Lobo do Mar on March 05, 2024, 11:19:33 AM »
Having inherited a WCS @ just over 4 months old at Christmas and being not only new to Spaniel but also dog ownership (more in my "Introductions" post) the last couple of months have been a real journey! We're underway with the basics and gun dog training and she's a star but I'm a little slower on the uptake! There is a real weird one that I thought I might share. My wife being W African buys Cow's foot for cooking and our doggo loves the bone, when she gets the bone she'll curl her lip and growl at the kids if they come near her but if I'm laying back on the sofa she'll jump on me with the bone and try to push it in my hand and even try to push it in my mouth, like she wants me to chew it with her. Seems strange behaviour to me but I was wondering if it has any meaning? Or it's only normal?
She loves you!
I am no expert, but am learning that 'normal' and 'Cocker' do not belong in the same sentence
