Garlic
« on: June 29, 2005, 04:35:06 PM »
Bought Lulu's usual dried food today and received some freebies from the manufacturers. One of them was a guide to training your puppy and in it was a section on nutrition.  It mentioned that garlic was to be avoided and also onion because they can be dangerous for dogs.  Any idea why?
I thought that garlic was used to ward off fleas...
Oh yes, grapes were also mentioned...not that I would even want to feed her with them!

One question should be 'why would you want to train with garlic?'

I've heard this about grapes too, intersting to know why.

I give garlic pearls everyday to my two - adult cockers. Tia gobbles up onion if I drop some whilst chopping - and I can't see any problem!?!  :)

I think too much onion is bad as it makes them anaemic.

Garlic's OK as I was advised by a vet here to give wilf a clove a day in his food for a skin problem he had and its also useful against fleas

Grapes and especially raisens can kill a dog---I think its like chocolate in that they can't assimilate it very quickly or at all so toxins build up in the liver

I also thought that garlic was good, helps with digestion and wards off fleas.

Lottie used to love grapes, but I read on here that they weren't good for them so she doesnt get them now.
You should see the dirty look she gives anyone eating grapes now she doesnt get one.
