Changing from a convlescent diet back to barf
« on: August 23, 2007, 06:56:40 AM »
Bonnee has been on a boiled chicken and rice for the last couple of days because she has had a dicky tummy (no sympathy please, it was entirely self inflicted - she ate Molo's breakfast as well as her own, the glutton)

I starved her for 24 hours, and then introduced some cooked chicken and rice to settle her tummy a bit (she was bringing up bile  :-\).  She is now a lot better; what should I give her as a raw meal tonight, though? Minced raw chicken, or tripe......I don't know what raw foods are considered "bland" and are least likely to upset her

I have wondered about this - in fact I wonder what the BARF equivalent of chicken and rice would be.  When Coco has had a dodgy tum I have used raw chicken mixed with some bran and maybe some yogurt.  Otherwise, if she is fine I would just try a small amount of her usual food and see how it goes.  ;)

I would use lamb mince myself (as long as the dog is ok on lamb that is!)

If mine have a dicky tum or diarrhoea then I just fast them, 24 hrs initially but will do longer if necessary. (did 4 days with my old dog when she had pancreatitis) then I just start them off again on smaller prortions and see how they go. They have always been fine and tolerated the food well without further consequence. I prefer chciken as my stable meat.
