Liver Cake...............
« on: November 28, 2007, 03:51:00 PM »
GOOD LORDIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I made this last night as a recomendeation from Sarah our trainer at obedience classes and I nearly puked my boots up.  :P :P :P :P

It's absolutely foul - Charlie loves it though which is a shame becuase there is no way I can possibly make it again for the poor lad - just the thought of blending the liver makes me turn green.

Does anyone have any other home made treat recipes that they can share?

I nearly made it last Sunday but bottled out and put the liver in the freezer.  I made the Tuna Bread instead and my 2 were just as happy with that.

Where do the recipes come from?

I've got liver in the fridge that I don't think I'm going to eat and I'd hate it to go to waste.

1lb of liver
1lb of flour
3 eggs
spalsh of water
Tbsp of olive oil (optional)
2+ cloves of garlic (does not agree with all dogs)

Mix the liver in a food processor of blender until a pulp.

Add the eggs and blitz

Add the flour a little at a time adding water as needed.

You should get a pink sludgy mixure that is very thick

Spread this over a foil l,ined baking tin about an inch thick. (this recipe is for two batches)

Cook on 190 degrees for 30 mins until brown.

Cut into little squares after it is cooled.

This freezes really well and Charlie goes nuts for it! I however happen to think it's disgusting! I wish I had the stomach to cook it again but for me blending livers and the smell was too much.

But watching Charlies little face and big brown eyes when I feed him it, no doubt i'll cave in and do it again - this time with a peg on my nose!!!

Good Luck!

Fab - thanks for the recipes.

Sounds revolting but I'll give it a try. Frozen sounds pretty good too as Jake is teething just now. We're just waiting for the last two top canines to drop out and they're bothering him so this may just give them a helping hand whilst soothing his poor sore gums.

I make the tuna bread from the itsaspringthing site, mine all adore it.  I sometimes use a large tin of pilchards in tomato sauce and double the amount of other ingredients, I then cut it into small pieces, put them on a baking tray and put it in a low oven for about an hour then turn the oven off and leave the bread in there until it's cooled, it keeps for ages in an airtight container and they love it......

Don't feed your dog the livercake whilst frozen!!!!!! You can freeze it to keep it longer as it spoils quite quickly. But you must defrost it to feed.
