Very Excited - I'm going on a photography day!
« on: February 09, 2009, 07:10:30 PM »
Since we (my OH) bought the D-SLR camera last year, I have been looking at the various practical and classroom-based seminars and training courses on offer to help me make the most of it..... and OH has booked me a place!

I am going on a one-day, hands-on introductory course hosted at Paignton Zoo!  I cannot imagine a more exciting venue; there are days hosted closer to home, but a stately home didn't hold the same appeal as the chance to be taught how to photograph animals by an expert!  :D

I don't know how I am going to cope with the wait; it's not until September!   ph34r

I want a D-SLR, and one day when I do get one I WILL go on a course, do they do them all over the country?  I am in East Anglia

How exciting, I'm very jealous.  I really wanted a DSLR now, but can't justify it at the moment.   :'(  Looking forward to seeing the results later in the year.   ;)

Cool :shades:  I've never done one of those but I'm sure you'll have a great time and a zoo is a great place to have it. What's it going to be covering?

There are loads of courses up and down the UK, you should have no problem finding one nearby  :D

Canon have a partnership with a training provider who offer courses specifically designed for their various camera models (which is who I have chosen to go with), but there are loads of companies which offer courses; they advertise in the back of photography magazines and there are lots of on-line photography forums where you can get advice and help you chose the one which is right for you!

Cool :shades:  I've never done one of those but I'm sure you'll have a great time and a zoo is a great place to have it. What's it going to be covering?

It's their introductory course.... ph34r and it covers:
•    PIC modes - what they do
•    Auto white balance explained
•    Program mode
•    Handholding speeds
•    The effect lighting has on images
•    Understanding drive settings
•    Understanding lens usage
•    ISO speeds and when to utilise
•    Framing your images
•    When flash should or should not be used

There are a couple of more advances ones I'd like to do, too (landscape and action) - but I thought I would be best starting with the basics and working my way up....(and the location was a definite draw!)

Sounds very good Rachel, did you find it through the Canon website?

There was a catalogue for the training courses with a discount voucher in the first EOS Magazine, and we added ourselves to their e-mail listings so we have been kept up to date with what they had on offer - the course I have booked is new for this year  :D

That sounds great, I hope you get some really good shots. I can say though that if they mean the built in flash on the cameras and when that should be used the answer is almost never :lol2:
