As much as I love my Panasonic Lumix, I am getting really aware of its limitations.  So........I want to buy a 'next step up' camera.  What is it? :005:  I know nothing about cameras so the less complicated the better.  I have had some great photo opportunities with the girls and I want a camera that will do them justice!!

Bridge cameras are the mid-point between a compact and an SLR, they give some superb results while still being relatively easy to use, I've read good reviews of these...

This is a brilliant camera, if I had a spare £400 to spend on a bridge camera for times when I can't lug my SLR around this is definitely the one I'd buy: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-PowerShot-14-7MP-Digital-Camera/dp/B001FWYT9K

Thanks Nic.....I like the look of the last one and if you would buy it, it must be good!!  Wonder if I can sell the state of the art metal detector (Mr Sheryl bought me) and buy the camera instead?

Well I know which one I'd get more use out of... unless you can send him away over the fields with it to find a buried fortune :005:

Hi there - I love my Canon G9 - it's an in-betweener too - it has many of the functions of a DSLR, other than the interchangeable lens - but you can pop it in your bag/pocket - I always carry it, and only take my DSLR on photo shoots/walks these days (and keep the G9 for backup too). There are updates to my model (I think Nicola's link is to the recent spec) definately worth the money  :D

Sheryl, could I hijack for a moment?

My mum's brother bought her a bridge camera which she has now passed on to me its a Fuji S1600 12MP Bridge Camera 15X Opt Zoom. It's really for taking away in my rucksack when I'm up the hills - is this an ok camera?  :D

As far as I know the FUJI S1600 has very recently been released - it's definately a step up from a point and shoot and will give you some extra options than the P&S too - will get you into lots of settings (play with them as much as you can) the next step would be to get a DSLR with interchangeable lenses, and then the world's your lobster!  :D Enjoy the Fuji - I had one for my very first "grown up" camera, and it opened a whole new world to me!

Thanks. :D

I've got a Canon 350D, but it's a bit too heavy and bulky to carry up the hills in my wee rucksack. :D
