low light lense
« on: October 17, 2010, 08:08:54 PM »
I will be going away next week. The kids will be doing karaoke and Fancy dress for Halloween in the club. Where the light level is low so i will need to buy a new lens i think as i get to much noise of the lens i have now (tamron 100-300 f3.5)  I was thinking of the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens has any one used one or can give me any advice on lenses or tips for low light

Thank you Ian

Possibly too late a reply but will post anyway, did you go for that lens?  In that pricerange I think that's a great choice of lens, I think it's always handy to have a wide aperture prime lens in your camera bag as they're small, usually comparatively high quality and great for low light.

Obviously the wide aperture can be a bit of a double edged sword as wide open the lens can be a bit softer and you can have a very shallow depth of field.  When you are shooting at F1.8 make sure focus is exactly where you want it and the depth of field is enough to cover your subject.
