I have a Dell one from work which is great, it's really small and thin and weighs practically nothing. No idea how much it cost though. My own laptop is a Toshiba from PC World and it's fine, I haven't had it long but haven't had any problems so far.

I would avoid a laptop until the children are much older; providing them with a desktop system in a family area is one of the best ways of keeping kids safe online  ;)

my laptop has a desktop wizzard 'prepare this pc for the kids' You can put a thing on it so that they can only go on websites with your approval and it protects important files etc from wondering fingers.  I think pc world actually have a kids laptop at the moment for £349 with all the relevant controls etc and u can change the casing on it and stuff so they can customize it to their liking
