Keep your dogs tail. A dog communicates a lot with its tail. I wish that Cerys had more of a tail. Dylan is docked but he has still got quite a long tail. I love his tail and its a joy to see him wagging it whan hes happy. Cockers especially express a lot of their feelings using their tails. When their happy they wag it about, when their scared its down between their legs and when theyve seen something that interests them it stands stright up. Do you really want to take that element of communication out of your relationship with your dog?

If I was you I definately would NOT dock her tail at this late stage especially if there is no real reason why you think you need it docking apart from " it looks much nicer". I like cockers both docked and undocked.

Billy was docked when we got him, i didnt choose him because of this, he was already docked ,but if he wasn't docked, and it was legal to do so, there is no way on this earth i would have had him docked at 3 mths. I just don't see the benefit of doing so when he is just a pet. To me i think its too much risk and not to mention the pain it will cause poor little Popis  :(    . Its so unecessary really

I would say if after reading these posts and having had time to think, you are still unsure about what to do then dont do it. As once its done there is no going back

Keep in touch and let us know what you decide  :)

Same as jan/billy i wouldnt dock this dogs tail  at the age she is.

All her nerves have developed in her tail so she will feel alot more pain than a 2day old pup would.
If i was you i would keep it  :)

My cockers tail is docked and that would be my preferance also I had no say in it as they were already docked if the breeder had giving me the choice I would not want to make the decision , but now at three months I know you would feel very guilty to dock her.

Enjoy her tail it is part of her :)

As a breeder I FULLY agree with the reasons to dock, however having said that my puppies are docked at 2 days & I would never consider docking at any other age other than if it were absolutely essential!

I haven't trusted myself to answer this post yet as I usually try to be helpful and unbiased but if you haven't already done it, please don't cut her tail off now.

It just seems so unneccesary.

I have two docked dogs and I will go all out to get a cocker with a tail next time. I get quite upset when I see them wag thier stumps sometimes as I know they will never be worked and so could quite easily have had thier tails left on.

I know this thread isn't to be turned into another debate and sorry for the slight shift from character.
