Downloading
« on: January 08, 2007, 08:42:23 PM »
Hi there

We download US tv progs (cos we can't wai  ph34r) but it takes forever.

We have broadband and the pc we download to is linked from the wireless router.

It says we have a good/excellent connection and the speed is 108bps.

Our broadband connection is with NTL and is 2meg (i think)

My question is how can i speed up the download? We use ABC and bittorrent and the download speed is currently 1.8kbs. Is this good? I dont think so as its estimating that a 50 min episode which is 10% downloaded wont be done for 2 days or say!

Help?

Janey

Hi there

After surfing around for a bit we have swapped from ABC to BitTorrent and wow what a difference. We have 40% already and are achieving speeds of 100kb/s (currently at 78kb/s)  :D

Am much happier and will be watching me tv prog much sooner!

I've tried most of the Torrent programs. Some use alot of memory though. For the last few months I have been using UTorrent and I've got the best download speeds ever!! sometimes 200kbs which is flying fast  :shades: Obviously remember it does depend on how many seeders/leachers there are connected. I tend to download overnight so it's ready for the next day and do a few at a time.
At the moment I'm downloading, Lost, Prison Break, Heroes and Ugly Betty ( which is brilliant by the way!!)
Make sure you have opened all the ports in your router and also in Windows XP Firewall.
This is a good site http://portforward.com/help/portforwarding.htm

Tiscali have started blocking ports for me, due to excessive downloads - despite them advertising my connection as unlimited downloads.  >:( I have to use click and play links now - quality is nowhere as good but at least I still get to watch the programmes.

Here's some links to the sites, if anyone is interested...

Janey - I found ABC really slow too.

Leave Tiscali if that the case :s.

Again Utorrent is one answer.

When I get to know you all a bit better ill give you link for direct server downloads, episodes of prison break take just 40 mins, most movies one hour and cds in minutes.
Oh and e books. Allededgly :) >:D
