pup like this (but black and tan) with alot more white on the chest, up his neck, under the chin and has white muzzle!

http://www.thegundogman.co.uk/images/rascal1_l.jpg

I'd say that dog was Liver & Tan, so it sounds like the pup you are talking about is Black & Tan.

Strictly speaking a Tricolour would be predominantly white with black (or liver) patches and tan points ( eyebrows etc) - the three colours are in separate solid blocks with no roaning. I'd say Woofie was Blue Roan & Tan rather than a Tricolour.

The dog in the picture (Rascal) looks very much like my Katie, don't ya think?  :D

Thanks for the link Colin, the picture of the lemon and white working cocker is very interesting as it is from the same breeder that Maddie came from and looks very closely related I think  :luv:

ETA Yes it is Maddies Mom  :luv:

agree with Colin

white chest flashes and chins are 'allowed' with most colours - hence a mainly black dog with these white markings would still be called a solid black and a black dog with tan points and a white chest flash is a "black and tan", a tri to me would have much much more white on the body  ;)

Look no further  ;) Copper was my foster recently  :D

sorry, that's definitely a black and tan - a white flash on the chest is 'allowed' for that colouring  ;)

closest we see on here is a blue roan and tan I think

Copper also has a white bum  ph34r

I recognise that picture from another site and I'd say he's a black and tan, they have to have more than 10% white and no more than 90% of a secondary colour to be a particolour.

Need to see some more of the rest of him to decide then.
