Title: COL Donations
Post by: Colin on December 02, 2009, 12:38:14 AM
Although COL is free for everyone to post it's not free to run - there are monthly bandwidth and server costs involved, which for a long time site owner Stueymac has generously picked up himself. The site exists as a free resource for all Cocker owners and there's no obligation for anyone to contribute towards our running costs; our primary objective is to provide a platform for all Cocker owners to use and hopefully benefit from - however all donations towards keeping the site going are very much appreciated. Anyone that feels able to donate please go to:   http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/donate.html and click on the "Donate" button at the bottom left of the page to make a contribution. Please add your COL username to the Subject or Message box when making payments from your Paypal account (so we can match donations up afterwards).

Any forum member who makes a donation of £5 or more will be given a 'donator' tag under their name as a mark of thanks. I'd like to stress that any donations are entirely optional and there's really no pressure involved - we want the benefits of the site to be available to everyone, not just those who donate money. However, anyone that is kind enough to make a donation should be assured that their generosity will be put towards the running costs and enhancement of the site - we are strictly non-profit making so any money received will be put back into COL. If you make a donation and don't see your donator tag within the next few days, PM stueymac (http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/discuss/index.php?action=profile;u=1) and he will sort it out for you.

Thank you.  :D

I've just clicked the link Colin posted & it goes to the main COL site with details of the email address you need to make manual Paypal donations. The "Donate Now" button is in the bottom left corner of the page and seems to be working ok - will amend the text so the button is easier to find ;)

I've been meaning to ask about this, I pay an annual subscription for another forum site that I use and was wondering how on earth COL was funded. The time and costs involved must be huge, off to donate now!

Is it worth having the donations as 'annual' so that people can be reminded if they want to donate again - as it's very easy to forget!

Thanks again :D

That's a good idea - especially for those of us whose memory is going  ph34r :005:

I couldn't see the message box so haven't added my COL name - hope you can match it up!  ;)

I am more than happy to contribute to the running costs of COL - money well spent imo  :D

All done no problems, with Paypal, my email address is nearly my log in name so pretty easy to spot really.

I am happy to pay an annual "donation" or set sum to be a full member as is done on many other sites on one after bandwidth costs are met any access goes to charity which is nice.

Thanks for all your donations (and nice comments about the site too), they are very much appreciated - the response to this thread has been far beyond anything we could possibly have hoped for, your generosity is overwhelming.  :shades:

It looks like the comment box only comes up if you go through your own Paypal account, rather than through the direct link on our homepage - Stu has done a great job of matching up donations with usernames so far but please carry on posting on this thread if you make a donation but you think it may not have been recognised. Thanks.  :D

We are currently looking at ways to improve our servers  :D

Stuart will you give us a nudge again next year or whenever the fund pot needs topping up again?

I know I won't remember - guess I just want to say please don't feel like you can't remind us or have a 'donating to COL month' if the site needs some extra funds! I'm sure it's a huge amount of work for everyone involved and it looks like lots of people can and are happy to make donations when needed - maybe you could change the 'Donations' tag once a year to a different colour or something? :D

Hi, i just donated a small amount although the paypal account is under my mum's name so it will come up with 'Wendy' not Emma, and i forgot to add my COL username :005:.
I stupidly thought that donating meant it was sort of a direct debit and money was taken monthly, which is why i havent donated before as i dont always have money in my bank ph34r. Doh, im so stupid, but will definitely do it more often now :D

Thanks ;) xx

Thank you for allowing me to use COL and be able to donate something for the running costs.   I used to run www.e30zone.co.uk and it costs a lot of money to maintain running a website, so I am only to knowledgeable about the costs and am only too pleased to help out in just the small deed.

Excellent website - thank you to everyone that is running it.

Regards ... Lizzie xxx

Thanks Lizzie

Every penny helps with bandwidth and hosting costs.
We couldn't have kept running for all these years without our donators. A MASSIVE thank you to you all for all the support!

COL Admin and Mod Team.

PS. And also a big thanks to repeat donators, big thumbs up from us!  :clapping:

If anyone has donated recently and not received their donators badge please let me know via email (info@cockersonline.co.uk) or PM. PayPal notifications have been a bit flaky lately so I may have not seen it come through.

As always though a huge thank you to everyone who has donated, you really do help keep the site alive and kicking! :-)

I've added my donation this evening. It is just a token of thanks for all the hard work and wonderful people I've met on here already. I couldn't have gained all of the information I had if I bought 20 books!  :005: I've decided that Alfie's birthday will be a reminder to me to make an annual donation. If I forget, someone please remind me!  :005: Most important is to be part of 'something' where there are so many like-minded people who all adore their little fluff balls. I feel normal on here, most of my friends and family think I am slightly mad when it comes to wanting the best for my boys :shades:

We aren't getting some Paypal notifications again for donations so if you've donated recently and not had your donators badge added please feel free to email info@cockersonline.co.uk and give me a nudge saying you've donated, I can then manually check.

Hi, I know this is a very old thread, but I've just noticed that my 'donator' status under my name has disappeared - is it because such a long time has passed since I donated and/or I last interacted with the forum?

Hi Jane

Unfortunately at the moment Paypal is pretty much the only way to donate. However I believe these days as long as you have a debit card you can simply use the PayPal website to process any payments rather than having to create a full PayPal account. I might be wrong though! Anyone else have any first time user knowledge of PayPal?
Title: Re: COL Donations
Post by: Catty_G on July 17, 2014, 07:15:09 AM
I set up a paypal account, it was easy to do all you need is your debit card. I use them on line where I can as I was advised it is safer than using your card.  They were very good when I had a problem once and a company never sent me my goods and refused to answer my emails to them. They have an arbitration service to help with things like that and when the company refused to answer them either they credited my money back into my account.  Here is a link

https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/account-setup (https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/account-setup)

Hope that helps
