Hi everyone,
Brodie went in for X-rays on Friday as she's been having problems with her legs (which we still haven't got to the bottom of). When the vet was looking at the results she noticed a pocket of air where there shouldn't have been and investigated. It turns out Brodie has a tumour in her anal gland :'(. It's been a total shock. I should find out if the tumour is malignant Wednesday/Thursday.
The tumour is still small (only a couple of mm in size) and if it is malignant it *should* be removed no problem, but sadly as the cancer is so aggressive it will almost definitely come back in (at best) a year or so. There are no guarantees though, my aunt's girl only lasted seven weeks with the same illness. It's not a fatty lump as there were cells present when the vet aspirated it.
The good news is her blood tests are normal, including her calcium levels - raised calcium levels are a big sign of cancer so I am hanging onto that thought :-\. Just can't believe this has happened, she only turns seven next month. Feel so relieved that it was found though, as it doesn't bear thinking about what would have happened if it is malignant and went undetected.
-
Really hope it's benign - will keep looking for updates and thinking of you x
-
Hugs for you and gentle squishes for Brodie. Thinking of you, fingers and paws crossed here xx
-
So glad you have found it early, thinking of you and Brodie and hoping the vet can get it all sorted asap :bigarmhug:
-
As it's been found early it's a good sign and hopefully it'll be benign. Thinking of you and Brodie and sending lots of big hugs from Blue and me :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:
-
What a horrible shock. TRY not to worry till you know more: at least the tumor has been detected while it is very small. Sending loads of positive thoughts to Brodie and big hugs to you both. :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: Diana xx
-
Oh, what a shock for you, sending you and Princess Brodie lots of :bigarmhug: Here's praying for the best possible results next week. Will be thinking of you, it won't be easy waiting on these results.... Take care :luv:
-
Sending you and Brodie :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: and positive thoughts
Julie
-
Brodie is so loved you noticed she wasn't 100% and persisted in finding out why and it's because you love her the tumor was found when it is so small.
Hoping as hard as is possible that it will be no more than an incredibly scary short period of time, a small operation and she will be fine.
-
Sending positive thoughts to you and Brodie x
-
:bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: thinking of you both

What a shock for you. I hope the tumour is benign and easily removed.
Sending positive thoughts your way :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

Sending you both some of these :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

Hope with all my heart that the results are positive news.
Thinking of you and Brodie.
-
I'm hoping and praying for you that it comes back benign. As you know, I lost my boy Dickon to anal gland cancer. His was already advanced and aggressive and, like your Aunt, our time left together was very short. Your vet has picked whatever this is very early which must be a positive for you.
Hugs for you both. :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:
-
So hope things turn out well for beautiful Brodie.
-
Sending positive thoughts to you both xx
-
Please try and keep positive. A tiny cancerous lump was found in Ozzy's anal gland 2 years ago. The gland was removed and although he was very uncomfortable for a couple of weeks he is still here and doing well. I know how lucky we were because it was caught early so everything crossed for you and Brodie has his tumour is also small. Sorry I don't think the vet told me the exact size.
-
Sorry to hear this Jenny, what a shock for you. I really hope this is going to be benign but even if not, Carols story is very positive xxxxx
-
What a horrible shock for you. Fingers crossed that it all turns out ok :luv: :luv: :bigarmhug:

Hoping and praying that you will get good news and a lot more time with Brodie xx :luv:

Am so sorry to hear about your worry with Brodie and hope the results come back that it's benign. Alfie had a tumour in his ear aspirated 2 weeks ago and we were very relieved when the results came back that it was benign.
-
So terribly sorry about the awful news for you and Brodie, it must have been an awful shock. Everything crossed for a positive outcome as it has obviously been caught early. We all know how much you love Brodie. The next few days will be very difficult but stay strong. Sending :bigarmhug:

Thank you everyone for your kind words, they really do mean a lot.

And a massive thank you, Carol, for this message as it is reassuring to hear of dogs doing so well after diagnosis :luv:. We are lucky to have the Royal Dick Vet in Edinburgh about 40 minutes away and they specialise in cancer, so I'm hoping that a referral there will work in her favour if the results come back positive.
Still can't believe it, it all seems so unreal. It was pure chance that the vet found it, it was the last thing she was expecting to find. Brodie is fine in herself (apart from her legs) although she's very cuddly :luv:. She is getting spoiled as much as possible. Just can't wait for the next few days are over, I'd rather know it was bad news than be sitting around waiting.
I'll keep you all updated xx
-
Lots of postive healing vibes being sent :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

The waiting can be really hard. Ozzy's was found by chance as well. He had been in a lot of pain and vet suspected a problem with his spine. He was on metacam and tramadol but still in pain and next thing was x-rays.
But although he had never had a problem with anal glands I had read that they can be very painful so I asked for them to be checked. That is when the lump was found.
He had x-rays and the gland was taken out at the same time. The x-rays showed a calcified disc and arthritis in all legs. As I said that was 2 years ago last month, he is now 10 but doing really well.
I really hope you are worrying about nothing and the results are benign.
-
Just adding my hopes and prayers for you. Having been through this many times, I can sympathise with your stressful time.
Let's hope all will be well.

-
Jenny, I am absolutely stunned to read this. I am so sorry, but like others have said, it has been found sooner than it may have been. Praying for a positive outcome for Brodie. You are right about the Royal Dick, good to have them close by. Sending you and PB :luv: all my love and lots of :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

Can someone please tell me what is The Royal Dick in Edinburgh? obviously a favourite name - but what?....thanks

Did he have to have any further treatment or did he just have the lump removed? I've always been certain I wouldn't put Brodie through any tough treatments but now I'm facing the possibility of it maybe happening at some point in the future I'm not so sure! Hopefully it's not something I'll have to think of for some time yet, if at all. I hope Ozzy continues to do well, it really is reassuring to read how well he's doing two years on.
Feeling very nervous today, I'm going to be a wreck tomorrow ph34r. Really hope the results are in then as I don't think I can cope with waiting another day or so.

she is booked in for an operation on Monday to remove the tumour but to honest I'm not sure if it's the right thing to do :-\. There's a very good chance that the cancer has already spread, which means that I may be putting her through an op for little reason. However, if I go ahead, the tumour will be sent off for proper analysis and then we will make a decision about whether it's in her interests to refer to Edinburgh for treatment. The way the vet is speaking, it seems there is little that can be done though :'(. I'd rather she had quality of life over quantity. Part of me wants to fight tooth and nail though.
I'm going to phone the vet as I really don't want to go ahead on Monday if it's not going to make any difference. Will update when I know more xx
-
Talk to your vet agian Jenny. You need to be more comfortable with the choice you are making. You still have questions, and I understand where you are coming from. Hugs my friend. xx
-
Feeling a lot better about going ahead now, Elaine. I spoke to the vet who did the initial X-rays and found the tumour, and she has reassured me that this is the best way forward. She pointed to the fact Brodie's blood tests were normal and that she couldn't feel anything wrong with other lymph glands (not that this means it hasn't spread). I was worried her leg problems could be connected and if there was a chance this was the case I wouldn't have gone ahead, but she thinks that's a different problem.
I could send her to a specialist, who could do a deeper scan and further surgery, but it could cause greater damage. So surgery on Monday is going ahead and then we shall see where we go from there. Really hope this means I will have her a little longer than I thought I would this morning.
-
Oh that's good. I find that my brain stops taking information in, and I need to go back and ask for an explanation again. this is a big decision and you have to be comfortable with it, so you have done the right thing. The blood tests are a good indicator and if the leg issue appears not to be related, that is also positive. So hang on in there, I think you have done the right thing, and if i was in your shoes, I would do the sams. Cuddles for the gorgeous one, lots of hugs for you too. xx
-
My heart goes out to you. My Hollie had a cancerous lump removed in July 2012; I lost her last April during which time she kept very well. I'm so glad I had those extra 20 months with her. I'm sure you're taking the right route. God bless. x
-
So sorry to see your news. Glad you're feeling better about going ahead with the operation. Your vet sounds quite positive.
-
So very sorry to hear the news. As others have said your vet seems very positive and I'm sure you are doing the right thing at this stage. You have to fight for your lovely girl. Jenny, I've only just seen this thread as not been on in a while. My heart jumped when I saw the thread title and having read about Brodie I want to send you (and of couse Brodie) big hugs. Can imagine how devastated you are, but being positive, your Brodie has never been typical in any other way and hopefully she'll find her own unique path through this and deal with it in her diva princess way!! Me and her wee neice Rowan will be thinking about you both on Monday and hope things go as well as can do for her. Lorrainne. X

Thank you Lorrainne (and everyone else) for that lovely message - you are right, she is a very special little girl who always does things her own way :luv:.
I'm stressed out to high heaven today - her legs were bad last night and later on her back did this weird spasm thing I've never seen before. Typical Brodie, she can't just have the one illness at a time ph34r. I'll be glad when I can speak to the vet about it tomorrow. Really stressing about her aftercare as well, as I've read it's very uncomfortable for them.
Will be very glad when tomorrow has come and gone.
-
Hi Jenny, have PM'd you but after I sent it I remembered my vet telling me back spasms are a common trait in show cockers. Tends to come on very suddenly as well she said. She did say not pleasant for them but treatable (best if they are optimum weight apparently, which is stretching it a wee bit for Rowan). Everything crossed its not all connected. Stay positive and hope she's diva-ing for all she's worth right now. Lorrainne. X
-
Sending every best wish for tomorrow and lots of these :bigarmhug: I completely understand how anxious you must feel today but this time tomorrow the op will be over and hopefully your lovely girl will be back home with you. Hope you can get some sleep tonight. Everything crossed for Brodie.

That's really interesting, I've never heard of them before! It's not happened since, thankfully, although she was limping again tonight. I will add it to the list of things I have to ask the vet. Brodie is on a diet right now to make things a little easier for her legs, she's not happy at the lack of chicken feet ph34r.
Can't thank everyone enough for their kind messages, they really have helped xxxxx

Thank you everyone :luv:. The op is over and I will pick her up at 4.30. I didn't speak to the vet when I phoned, but it seems all went well. Poor girl really didn't want to be left there this morning. Just can't wait to get her back xx

Not long now Jenny, op is done, and you will be beating the door down at 4.30pm. It will be so good to get her back again. :luv: Catch up later, thanks for the update. x

Hopefully you will be on your way home now and looking forward to spoiling Brodie
Hope her recovery is uneventful
-
She is back :luv:. And unfortunately not very happy, but that was expected. All went well, except she was sick while under anaesthetic - no complications thankfully. She's got a very sore throat though.
We should get the results on Friday. The vet did an xray of her chest which came back clear, but I've been warned it would not show any small tumours. The best case scenario is an adenoid carcinoma, which would (I think) require no further treatment but is also unfortunately quite rare. So just need to hope for the best. If it's not that, we will have to consider our options on what to do next.
Really hoping we have a settled night, I'm sleeping on the sofa tonight so I can keep an eye on her xx
-
Relieved & pleased it went as well as it could. Will keep praying for a good result for you :luv:

Keeping everything crossed for you. Hoping Brodie has a comfortable night.

Very pleased to hear all went well with Brodie's op.
Please remember that our canine 'loved ones' are fantastic at recovery and you will be back to normal in no time!
Easy for me to say, maybe, but try not to stress about the long term prognosis and be strong for her (and you), as the way ahead is something you can't foretell.

Such a relief to have Brodie home :luv: I hope she settles okay tonight and you both get some sleep. Good news that her chest is clear, that is a positive sign. Hang in there kiddo. xx

Glad to hear Brodie is home. Poor soul and hope she has a comfy night with you beside her. Sounds as good as can be until you get results back. It's the old adage of day (or night) at a time and hopefully each one will be better than the one before. I can see you on the floor right beside her during the night as she milks it for all she's worth. :005: Big (gentle) hugs from Rowan. X

-
You and she will both be happy she is back home I'm sure. Hope she had a good night...and you too xx
-
I hope you and Brodie had as comfortable a night as possible xx
-
Not too great a night. I decided to sleep downstairs on the sofa, as I guessed (rightly) she might need out during the night. Being Brodie, she stole my place on the sofa :luv:. She had a little accident during the night, which I guess is to be expected straight after an op in that area of her body.
She wanted cuddled all night and kept coughing and spluttering. It sounds like she has something stuck in her throat, it must be very uncomfortable for her. She's had some Manuka honey which seems to help. She's also brought up quite a bit of froth. Her throat seems a little better now, and she's had something to eat which is a good sign.
I don't think I could put her through this again :-\
-
Aw, bless her :luv: She will be sore but it is a good sign her eating (and keeping it down). Here's to a quick recovery for her, it isn't easy watching them in discomfort :'(
-
Glad to see she is home with you

:luv:
Aaaw bless her. The sore throat should be quite a bit better by tomorrow, its caused by the tube they have put down Brodie's throat. When Jazz had some fairly minor surgery last year I was really concerned about him but after a couple of days his throat/voice seemed to be almost back to normal. Good sign she has eaten, and kept it down. Well done Brodie keep up the good work.
-
Poor PB :luv: Good to hear that she has been able to eat, and I hope her throat is less aggravated tomorrow. Take care of both of you. xx
-
Relieved to see Brodie has eaten, hoping her throat is feeling better soon :luv:
-
She had a really awful snorting episode earlier - think some of that foam/saliva/bile or whatever it is she's been bringing up went the wrong way. There's a definite improvement in the coughing tonight, although it's still bothering her, and she was rather hungry at supper time. She's still not done a proper poo since the op, and I'm not looking forward to that happening at all. Just hope it's not too painful for her.
She's still being a princess though: I have to hand feed her, she's back to spitting out all her tablets, and she's currently stealing all the covers on the bed tonight so I have none :luv:.
-
Poor Brodie, she's a very clean dog so wouldn't have liked an accident (if she was even aware) on top of everything else. She's really going through it just now (with you not far behind I'm sure). Here's hoping another day makes a difference to her and you both get a sleep on the sofa cuddled up. :luv:
-
Glad to hear Brodie is eating......always a good sign. Hoping for a speedy recovery and for positive news on Friday :luv: :luv:
-
She's much, much brighter today, although still sleeping a lot. Her throat is not nearly as bad, but she's showing more interest in her wound so will need to keep an eye on her. She barked earlier for the first time, so is definitely feeling better :shades: :luv:

Thank you, it has been a terrible shock - I'm still holding out hope that it isn't the very aggressive cancer :-\. If it is, we've been incredibly lucky that it has been found so early and hopefully that will make a difference.
Brodie was at the vet for a checkup this morning and all is fine with her wound :luv:. She's also had her first poo since the op, and thankfully it wasn't too traumatic for her...

Fingers crossed here that you receive good news at the vet's today. :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: Diana x

No results yet, looks like they won't be in until Monday or Tuesday :(. Going to be a long weekend x
-
oh no, that's not what we wanted to hear. So sorry you have more waiting I always think the unknown is the worst part, as your mind races :bigarmhug:
-
Oh no! That's the absolute pits when you are so anxious. Hope they are in soon x
-
:bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: to get you through the weekend. x
-
Oh dear. Not what you wanted to hear. Try to relax and have fun with Brodie who, at least, doesn't know how worried you are. Thinking of you. :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: Diana xx
-
That is very frustrating Jenny. I hope the results are back on Monday. Hope PB is doing well. :luv:
-
Oh no. I hope she continues to feel better over the weekend and it doesn't drag too much for you. :luv:
-
How is PB :luv: doing Jenny?
-
She is doing very well, thanks Elaine, she's definitely perked up today :luv:. It's been such a worry. She's still not quite barking as much as usual, and sometimes all she can do is cough instead, but she's getting there. Interestingly, she's not limped once since her operation, so not quite sure what's going on there with her legs.
I, however, am a nervous wreck ph34r. I keep telling myself she looks so well, she's in great condition - her coat and ears are better than they've ever been, just got to hope she's one of the lucky ones :-\
-
I know Jenny, your mind takes you places you don't want to be :bigarmhug:
Maybe there was a little extra pressure being put on a nerve somewhere that has now been lifted. (never went to vet school just in case you were impressed there :005: )
It takes them a while to get over the anaesthetic, no doubt about it. PB without a bark is not PB :luv:

That's it exactly - I can't bear all this waiting but at the same time I am scared of being told the results. It's the way your mind blows things way out of proportion that's the worst: she's drinking more than normal, and although I know rationally that it's in all likelyhood due to her sore throat, a little voice in my head is telling me that it's something far worse :-\.
-
No news yet?
-
Thinking about you. x
-
Nope, nothing :-\.
I phoned up this afternoon to check, and was told it may be the end of the week. No idea why it's taking so long, but the veterinary nurse I spoke to said it is out of their hands, so all I can do is wait for the phone to go. We do have an appointment on Thursday morning for Brodie to get her stitches out, so I'll be asking then if they know what's going on.
-
Sorry yo have not heard, hopefully tomorrow or Thursday :luv: :bigarmhug:
-
Oh Jenny :bigarmhug: what can I say...
I hope PB :luv: gets on ok with having her stitches out. She is a brave girl. :luv:
-
I can't tell you how many times I log-in, hoping to read the best possible news for you and Brodie. My family have become involved and we're all holding positive thoughts. When one of us returns home, it's always, "How are you? What news of Brodie?" We're so rooting for you both. xx

Nothing worse than waiting. Hope you find out really soon.

Saw the head vet this morning - he's phoning the lab to see what's going on, so hopefully I will have some information this afternoon xx

Just checking in :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

I've just phoned and spoke to a vet - it was very hard to make out what he was saying as there was a lot of background noise, but from what I could make out the results were inconclusive  and more tests need to be done. I've to phone in the morning and speak to the head vet, since he has a clearer picture of what's going on xx

Right, no uncrossing of fingers yet :shades: but things are tentatively looking better for Brodie, as the tests run so far have came back benign. Im trying not to get my hopes up, as the initial aspiration definitely showed up cancer cells, but further tests are being carried out to find out what we are dealing with. I hope this makes sense, my mind's a bit of a mess.
Results should be in next Wednesday :-\

The vet was very careful not to get my hopes up. I'm hoping it means that even if it is bad news, we've caught things extremely early. If that's the case, Brodie has been a very lucky girl that it was found when it was.

I understand where things are at Jenny, but I would just say that since reading your first message, there are several quite major differences between Jack and your Brodie. I've always thought that your girl's prognosis was much more positive than my boys. I do know how awful it must be to wait again for the test results and you're both still very much in our thoughts.
Stay strong, Jenny. xx

She's doing great - almost fully recovered, I think. I really hated seeing her so ill :'(. But she's back to her usual princessy self now. Her legs are a little wobbly again :-\, but not nearly as bad as they were pre-op.
It really is awful waiting - I'm really trying not to get my hopes up as I know those cancer cells had to come from somewhere :-\. Thank you everyone, your messages really do help :bigarmhug:

Am really sorry to read that the news is not good.

So sorry Jenny, that it isn't the good news we all hoped for you and Brodie.
You're both in our thoughts.
-
I am so sorry. I have been hoping so hard for Brodie. Thinking of you.
-
Thank you all. It turns out there was a lot of inflammation around the cancer cells, which is why the first few sections tested clear. I knew it would take a miracle for it to come back completely clear, and sadly it wasn't to be.
It's a waiting game at the moment for the cancer to reappear, but I need to decide the best way forward. I know what my head is telling me is the best for Brodie, but it's hard to accept. We're back at the vets a week tomorrow so it will give me some thinking time. A referral does seem the logical step though, so I can get all the answers I need.
I'm heartbroken :'(
-
Oh Jenny, I'm heartbroken for you both. I know how much she means to you and what a special unique dog she is. As you say, thinking time and a clear head is what you need just now. The bond between you means you will know what's the right things to do. Tonight's not that night. Sending biggest hugs from me and Rowan. X

Thinking of you both. So sorry to hear this news.

Just caught this and read through your agonising situation. What utter heartache for you :bigarmhug:
-
We were back at the vets this morning and Brodie has fully recovered from her op :luv:. We are going to get referred to the Royal Dick Vet for scans. I don't think I would put her through any treatment in the future, as even with medical advances (and my vet said things move on very quickly with research) she would need very aggressive treatment.
The good news is that the area around the tumour appeared clear, but we won't know for sure if it had begun to spread until she gets the deeper scans done. I'm hoping the initial tests were correct, as it will give us a little more time before the cancer reappears. I feel like I need to know what is going on, as being in the dark is awful.
They will also be able to take a look at her back, to see if there's a reason there for her sore legs that didn't show up in the X-rays.
She turns seven next Tuesday and will be getting very spoiled :luv:
-
A little bit of good news for Brodie, I so hope it continues.
I feel for what you must be going thro' Jenny, it wrecks our peace of mind when our cockers are unwell but you are doing everything possible to give Brodie her best chance of recovery.
Thinking of you.

I echo Maurice's sentiments regarding a bit of good news for you and Brodie.
This last few weeks must have been agonising for you but you are doing everything you can for Brodie. We are all rooting for her here on COL. Hope she has a wonderful 7th Birthday. Bless her.
-
I am glad to hear, that you have some good news. here's hoping that the tumour has not spread. as you now, we are all behind you on COL. :luv: :bigarmhug:
Stephanie, George and Hamish xxx
-
I just can't get over how lucky we've been (although it doesn't feel like it!) that the tumour was discovered when it was. The vet said today that if Brodie hadn't had that X-ray, the tumour wouldn't have been able to be detected until it was at least the size of a grape, by which time it is almost definitely would have spread. Quite scary :-\.
I know that Brodie has a poor prognosis :'(, but at least now we might have a small chance of having more time together that we otherwise wouldn't have had.
-
Just caught up with this. Glad to hear some good news. With it being caught early hopefully it's not spread and you'll have many more happy years with her.

Happy to read Brodie is doing well, hopefully she will have more time with you than initially feared :luv:

Enjoy each day, they are so special and we loose sight of this. Count the blessing that you have each day.
Make them special for you and Brodie and the vet is right things progress so quickly in the medical world.

I'm so pleased that you will have more time with Brodie than you expected. I very much appreciated Jay's post and wise words. Every day shared with Jack is so special to me and I'm reminded of something my Vet said. She has been exactly in the same position as I am, with one of her own dogs, and her advice was that "a day in the life of a dog is a very long time." I make every one count, whilst still retaining a little hope for a miracle.
Will be thinking of you both. :bigarmhug:
-
Yes, I will never take Brodie for granted again! We've shared many special cuddles and games since the lump was found :luv:. You really do appreciate them even more when something like this happens. I spoil her even more now too, if that is possible ;). And I know it will be the same with Jack and any other dog in the same position. I am praying for that miracle for Jack too :luv:.
We've got our oncology appointment - next Monday. They have also made an appointment with the orthopaedic specialist on the same morning (more luck there - usually you have to wait weeks for an appointment with them, according to the woman I spoke to, and we managed to get one for the same day). So I should find out what's causing her leg issues. That has now became extremely important to me, as it will be one of the factors in deciding what to do next.
I still feel that treatment isn't right for her, but I'm now feeling extremely conflicted as I've been told by the RDV that they have had a lot of success with Brodie's type of cancer. So the scans and other tests on Monday will be very important in deciding. If there is an issue with her back or some other major problem, I can't see it being fair to her :'(. Not with everything else she has going on. And the same if the cancer has managed to spread. My aunt had her girl treated when she was much more advanced than Brodie, and I know she regrets it. I'm hoping that together with the RDV vets and my own practice we can find the right path for Brodie, even if it's the hardest one for me.
She might have to stay in overnight, which I'm dreading - I hope they have experiences in dealing with Princesses :luv:.
-
Awww, keeping everything still tightly crossed for you and Princess B. I'm sure they will lay on some extra staff to attend her every whim if she does stay in!
As you know, my boy Dickon's cancer was very, very advanced and I was advised not to have any treatment. It was also made easier because his pancreatitis could be caused by stress and the biopsy to diagnose him caused a flare up. I knew that any treatment would likely cause the same reaction so I didn't really see any option other than to just love him and spoil him and enjoy every minute with him. I am sure that once you have all the information, you will make the right decision for both of you.
Love to you both. xx

That's one of my worries too - I just don't know if her system would take the treatment without it causing major effects. She's been left very sensitive and prone to upsets since her pancreatitis bout :-\. The slightest change in diet can cause big upsets that takes weeks to sort out, and stress can affect her too (although not as bad as it did Dickon, she usually just gets very yucky poos) so not sure how things would go with such major treatment. It's near the top of the list of things I'll need to bring up with the specialist.
If the cancer was advanced I wouldn't even consider it. Maybe I shouldn't be now :-\. We shall see how things go once I have all available info.
-
Follow your heart I did with Jasper and it gave us six special years we didn't think we'd get. You know Brodie better than anyone you will do what's right for her. Cockers are the most resilient stubborn not giving up dogs I have ever seen. Hugs to you and Brodie. :luv:

Hi Jenny it is such a tough place you are in with your darling girl. Thinking of you. When our dear boy Sweep had lymphoma we tried chemo but he had a really bad reaction to it and we couldn't continue. We did get several months more with him though on steroids alone. During that time we had a last family holiday together and he was full of life. We took lots of photos and took comfort from that extra time.Take care.

Hi Jenny, thinking of you both. Such a difficult time for you and these decisions are never easy, enjoy each day with your darling girl. :luv: I'm in a similar situation with my boy.

It is horrible time of uncertainty for you, I remember the feeling well. When Jarvis's tumour started to grow again, the Royal Dick recommended chemo which was Palladia in pill form. He coped with it very well ,no side effects. Sending :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: for you both

Yep, that crossed my mind too! Thankfully they sent out a letter (along with other info) that arrived today, and yes it's next Monday. Maybe that's why I was so lucky to get the orthopaedic appointment?
I've been looking at both the RDV's website and the stuff they sent out and I'm very impressed. Very impressed with the (estimate only) price list that was sent out as well :shades:. Brodie is a great example of why insurance is so important. It seems they also can provide support to owners too, through their Cancer and Wellness Centre. I have a fear of being pushed into treatment that's not in her best interests, but my mind has been put at rest.
She's doing well at the moment, her legs are not bothering her as much (she's on anti-inflammatories just now). She has been trying to get at her backside a few times over the last few days, I'm hoping that's just a case of the wound bothering her :-\.
It still seems so unreal.
-

Ah that's ok then I just didn't want you to get all geared up and the date was a mistake...hope everything goes as well as it can. :luv: :luv:
Irene
-
Well today was the day, and she is home :luv:. Very bald in places, unhappy and tired, but otherwise fine.
It went as well as it could have, I'm pleased to say.
There are no signs that the cancer has spread :luv:. I now have to decide the next step forward: they are recommending four weeks of radiotherapy to kill off any cancer cells that remain at the site of the tumour. She'd have to spend those four weeks in the hospital, apart from the weekends :-\. The average lifespan after treatment is two and a half years (I was told this morning that if it had spread she might have as little as six months). So I have to decide if four weeks of intense treatment away from home is worth putting her through. I am very, very tempted, but need to think. There are other options such chemotherapy I need to look into.
The other bit of good news is there is no sign of spinal problems or any other issues. The orthopaedic vet thinks she has very low grade polyarthropathy, which is usually a secondary issue - so it seems it was probably triggered by the tumour. He is hopeful that it will disappear now the tumour has been removed. So that's one thing I can hopefully stop worrying about, once the full results come in over the next couple of days.
So she is due in next Tuesday for a ct scan so they can start planning the radiotherapy. Am really torn, but I do think this might be the way forward :-\.
-
So pleased for you that it went better than expected - bad as it is, there are encouraging signs, and good news too about the spinal probs too. I am not up on medical procedures but I am sure you will do what you feel is right for Brodie, talk about a rock and a hard place :-\
Will you be able to visit, sort of midweek - or do they think it would upset you both more?
A couple of these for you both :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:
Will keep up with the positive vibes :luv: :luv:
-
Overall that sounds positive. But take your time Jenny in making your mind up "& I'm confident that you will choose what is best for Brodie & you. Big :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:
-
So pleased the results were positive am sure you will know the best course of action for Brodie once she's had her scan x
-
Okay, so good news, and a positive outlook. You have had a lot to deal with today, so take a breath and a step back. Trust in your instincts Jenny, you have been spot on, and you know your girl inside out. :luv: Just enjoy having her home this evening and let your mind settle, you must be exhausted. So glad to read your update. xx
-
Jenny, cautiously optimistic news. Sounds like cause for hope at least. Its a lot to weigh up but at least there are options which is better than you could have hoped for a few weeks ago. Hopefully the CT scan will complete the picture and help make your mind up the best way forward. Worse case scenario could be she starts the radiotherapy and doesn't tolerate it well and you decide to re-think completing the 4 weeks and re-evaluate things. Then you know you've tried. Its very difficult and only you will know what's best for Brodie. I know most of us want quality of life for our furbie friends and it sounds like you have good expert advice too to help with your choices. More big hugs from Rowan and me. :luv:
-
Thanks everyone. I've pretty much decided to go ahead with the radiotherapy, although I still have some questions I need to talk over with the vet when I see her on Tuesday. I know it won't be pleasant for Brodie, but it's the lesser of two evils. She'll be ok for her first couple of weeks, but by the third the effects will start to show. Apparently they recover pretty quickly, though. It's one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make, and I feel absolutely awful at putting her through it, just hope it will be worth it and give her those extra few years. So she goes for a cat scan on Tuesday, so they can work out their treatment plan, and I think the radiotherapy will start the week after.
I wasn't sure at first, but it seems the surgery to remove the tumour and anal sac has caused some small aftereffects. She doesn't seem to have the same control she used to, and when she has to go, she has to go. Not incontinent thankfully, and something that's easily managed. But one of the things I need to ask the vet about.
One bit of good news - her legs are doing much better now: she was running around the garden a lot the other day and there was no limping later in the evening. The orthopaedic said he thought this would happen, so it seems indeed that her polyarthropathy (although still waiting for the results to confirm) were caused by the tumour.

wishing her all the best - I fully understand that it's not an easy decision for you to make x

Not quite the same thing but it may help put your mind at rest. My husband who is 84 this year, has just finished his course of 15 radiotherapy treatments, he has sailed through it..........we do have to put on E45 cream to keep his skin soft (don't quite know how you would do this); he also "itches" during this last week & maybe he has been more tiered during the last 4 days (it's hard to say as he is often tired but that could just be his age). He is still very active, can do anything he did before & still walks the dog with me.

Thinking of you for tomorrow, I know you are well prepared, and have thought this through from top to toe, so I know you will make the right choice. Trust yourself Jenny, you know PB inside out :luv: Will have you both in my thoughts tomorrow. :bigarmhug:

Thank you - it really does help reading things like this :luv:. I hope your husband continues to do well.
Well, everything went fine yesterday, although she is still a tired girl today. It really wiped her out, poor thing. But the scan is done and they will start planning her treatment over the next couple of days, and she goes in to start it next Monday. I really feel like I have no other option: if we do nothing it will only be a matter of months before it takes hold again and takes her from me. It's so hard to believe, she looks so well - everyone she meets says the same.
The Royal Dick Vet are fantastic - she is so well looked after and she showed very little signs of stress when I took her in and picked her back up again. I asked if she was stressed during her visit, and the lovely vet said she was a bit unsettled and barky at first, but then was completely fine. She will be allowed to have a toy in with her next week, and they will take her four or five walks a day. They'll also do all they can to ensure she sees the radiation itself as a positive experience, playing with her beforehand and giving her chicken after - apparently a lot of dogs actually get excited when they are taken there. I met one of the nurses who will be looking after her, and she was lovely too. The vet is confident that the little problem she is having with pooing should clear up and the treatment won't have any negative effect on her in that department.
If anyone finds themselves in the same position as me, and are in the area (or can travel), I can't recommend the RDV enough. They are just brilliant. I was a little worried I would be pushed into treatment, but they've been very understanding and great at explaining and answering any questions. It is expensive - after the radiation therapy is complete I will be very near my insurance limit, and any further treatment will mean breaking open the piggy bank. But worth it.
It's scary how common this seems to be in cockers - the vet couldn't put any figures on it, but says they see cockers very frequently; and that's not counting all the calls they get from vets asking for advice. Thankfully Brodie's sister is at no extra risk due to being her littermate, but is at risk purely by being a cocker.
So, really dreading the next few weeks, but I know she'll be in great hands. It helps that she's so friendly too; as long as she gets attention (and it doesn't matter who from), she should hopefully be ok.
-
Please give Brodie a gentle squidge from us :luv: :luv: it sounds like she is in very capable and kind hands at the Royal Dick, which hopefully will relieve the stress for you a tiny bit. Sending you both continued positive thoughts :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

Jenny, for what it is worth, I would have done the same as you. I am so pleased that the RDV are understanding of the dog as well as the people. Nothing can make this any better, but some things an make it worse, and I am glad the RDV are being kind to you both. Cuddles for the gorgeous one :luv: and a lot of these for you :bigarmhug: You must both be exhausted, so cuddle up and take it easy. xx

Thank you all :luv:
She went in yesterday - it was really awful leaving her :'(. But she's had her first treatment and will be having her second this morning, and it's going well. There will always be someone in the kennel area with her, so she'll be getting plenty of attention (she'll make sure of that ph34r :005:). She has her beloved Teddy Bear with her, so hopefully he's helping comfort her. I miss her so much, and can't wait for Friday to come.
-
It is good to hear that her first session has gone well and that she will not be short of cuddles from the nursing staff ;). I hope Friday comes quickly for you both. look after yourself as well :luv: :luv: and :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: to you both.

I'm sure Friday must seem like a long time from now, but you know that Brodie is being really well cared for and will be getting lots of cuddles :luv:, so keep focussed on that Jenny :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:
-
Just spoke to the vet and Brodie is 'very happy and chatty'. She's made friends with the dog in the kennel opposite her, and the two of them keep 'talking' to each other. It's so good to hear she appears not to be stressed out, although I knew that if she was getting the attention she needed she would be fine. One of the good things about having such a people-orientated dog!
The treatment is going well too, and that's a good sign as usually if it starts well it ends with no complications. The area involved is very small, so hopefully the side effects won't be too great.
It's a weight off my mind to know she's happy :luv:
-
That is a lovely update, so pleased she is doing well, good that she has a doggy friend there to keep her company. :luv: Must be a real relief to you that everyone is so friendly and not only medical minded.

How are you doing Jenny? :bigarmhug:
Very excited to see her again tomorrow :luv:. Can't wait to have her back home. I'm trying not to think that she has to go back in again on Monday though.
She continues to do great - she's been outside enjoying the sun over the last couple of days, playing with her Teddy Bear and trying to steal the vet's earrings :005:. Again, I can't praise that hospital enough, they are really taking care of her needs and giving her plenty of attention. If the vet goes outside for breaks/meetings (it's very warm and sunny), Brodie goes with her. The treatment continues to do well, thankfully. All in all, I'm glad I went ahead and am now very sure I made the right decision.
-
Perfect weather for Brodie, she does like a spot of sun. Nice of her to try and snaffle you a pair of earrings :005: clever girl! I am please that you are comfortable with the choice you made. it is never easy to know what to do for the best. Definitely helps that the RDV are so good with Brodie. Makes all the difference. Big cuddles for you soon :luv: :luv: :luv:

You sound like you have a very good vet, it will be lovely to have her home tomorrow, thinking of you allxx
-
She's home :luv:. She was so incredibly pleased and excited to see me (and me her, of course :luv:). She's looking very well, although is looking rather odd with her various shaved bits :005:. One shaved area is on her flank, and has a large X on it. I assume this is where the radiotherapy is aimed, and it will be the bald patch that my vet has told me about, that she will always have. Her hair is that thick it probably won't be too noticeable, not that it matters.
Anyway, it seems she's been enjoying herself, and my vet seems to have taken a real shine to her :luv:. She showed me a photo of them both outside, with Brodie on her knee getting a hug. Brodie looked incredibly happy :luv:. I know it's not always fun there, but they really are making sure that any stress is kept to a minimum. Am dreading her going back on Monday, and know that she'll be in for some tough times when the radiotherapy starts having its effects, but I also know they'll be doing everything possible to keep her comfortable and happy.
We are going to have a very quiet weekend, with lots of cuddles :luv:
-
Fantastic :luv: Enjoy the cuddles and the catch up. It must be a huge weight of your shoulders to know that the vet is taking such good care of Brodie :luv: and that Brodie is happy with the vet. :luv: You will never notice that wee patch of fur, it will be covered up easily enough. Make the most of the weekend, lazy days and cuddles, sounds good to me. ;) Hugs for PB :luv: and you too :bigarmhug:

Have a lovely weekend doing all the things Brodie enjoys and forget about Monday..... Sending you both big hugs. :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: Diana xx
-
Two weeks gone now and she's home for the weekend - and not a happy girl :'(. She has phlebitis (inflammation) in the vein of her front leg, where the needle has been. It's very painful and I'm having to lift her on and off of the sofa. She's got Metacam, so hopefully that will help.
Otherwise, the week has gone very well and the vets are pleased with her. She's been as good as gold and it was again clear when I went to pick her up that she's very comfortable being there. They continue to be great - they even emailed me photos of her with her new friend, Brooke, and she looked very relaxed and happy in them. It's going to be very difficult to take her back on Monday though :-\
-
Pleased that Brodie is back with you again for the weekend :D, but sorry to hear about the Phlebitis. Is it likely to resolve before Monday and can they use a vein in the other front leg instead?
-
Jenny try not to think about Monday, cuddles and tlc for both of you. Glad Brodie :luv: is comfortable there, that makes a big difference. I hope they can get the phlebitis under control, and use another vein. Hugs for you both. :bigarmhug:

Been worrying about her for most of the day, having to carry her on and off the sofa and down steps (although somehow she found she was able to gallop around the garden at various points...). However she sprang back to almost her usual self a couple of hours ago :luv:. Still got a slight limp, but much better than she was.
They'll use her other (right) leg next week, I think that was the plan even before this issue arose as they used the right leg on her first week. Goodness knows what they'll do for the last week if the vein still isn't right .
-
Brodie is bound to be a bit out of sorts, good to hear she came back to her old self again. I know it is hard, but try not to worry about the following week. Hugs for you both. x
-
You must keep positive...dog's have away of knowing we are helping them and who loves them :luv:
Love to you and Brodiexx
-
Today, according to the vet, she is 'very happy' :005:. She's been very enthusiastic about going out to play too. Her leg seems totally fine. Sadly, the effects of the radiation have started (I was hoping it wouldn't happen until towards the end of the week), and although she's not in much discomfort they have started her on pain medication already, so that it's more effective. It will make her more sleepy, which by the sound of it will give the staff a little bit of peace :luv:.
-
Still more positive news, keep strong Brodie.....

-
Well done PB, you are doing great. :luv: Jenny, this has to be so hard on you, I really admire how you are dealing with all of this. Take care. x
-
It is really hard, I feel awful at putting her through it :-\. I know it's her best chance though. I'm so relieved that she's such a friendly dog as she seems to be taking everything in her stride. Everyone I talk to there say how lovely and happy she is :luv:. She's thriving on the attention. Just hope that outweighs the effects of the radiotherapy for her.
-
Totally understand that :bigarmhug: dogs are so resilient though. You worry because you know why you are doing this, PB :luv: is blissfully unaware and busy charming those she meets. Hang in there. xx
-
Thanks, Elaine :luv:. She's home, and not too happy a girl and very, very tired. She's got a tonne of painkillers and creams though, so they seem to be doing their job. I've to soak her backside in tea (it's a good antioxidant, apparently) three times a day - she's not exactly overjoyed at that :P. She's got her usual appetite though, and was delighted when my niece and nephew visited :luv:. Am hoping she'll be brighter tomorrow, and it's sunny enough for us to spend time outside.
Really can't wait for the next week to be over and done with.

I hope you and Brodie have a quiet relaxed weekend together :luv:

Brodie's not been very comfortable the last couple of days :'(. But her medication is working, thankfully. She's been sleeping a lot because of them, though. The tea soaks and cream application hasn't gone down too well - I don't blame her there ph34r. She has however been out on walks - we went a nice walk to the field with Beau yesterday, and today we went a long (for her) walk in the afternoon. She was determined to go the route she wanted to!
I think one of her main complaints is this:
She hates it ph34r. Going to get her an inflatable one for the weekend.
So one week left, I'm hoping it isn't too hard on her and is quickly over. I know she will be well looked after :luv:
-
Bless her, she doesn't look too impressed with the collar.
Nice to hear that she's been enjoying her walks. I think you and Brodie are both doing amazingly well. Sending you both positive thoughts for this week :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

Goodness Brodie, you look really well, albeit a bit dischuffed with your attire ph34r Nearly there Jenny, and I do think an inflatable collar would probably help things a bit. So pleased you were able to meet up with Beau, and also have a decent walk. Weather has not been great here, but I hope you got enough dry spells and sunshine to allow for a good weekend. :luv: :bigarmhug:

She melts my heart every time I see her. Just gorgeous. She's doing so well (as are you). Good for her going her walk and nice to see her stubborn streak is still there. Plenty of fight in her yet, but so glad its her last week. Rowan sends her love too. :luv:
-
love the tutu :luv:
Love that :005:. They've had to swap her to one of the plastic buster collars as she could get to her backside with the one in the photo. Apparently she hates the plastic one even more. Have ordered an inflatable one, just hope it's here on time.
Spoke to the radiographer this afternoon, she's very pleased with how Brodie is doing and says the radiation site is looking well. We've entered the tough stage though, so I'm hoping the meds help keep her as comfortable as possible. There is a delayed reaction with the radiation as well, so things will get worse about a week after the radiation has finished, before they start to improve. I'm rather nervous about her coming home, as I know it will be hard going for the both of us :-\. But she'll be back home where she belongs and we will soon be back to a normal life :luv:. These four weeks have went incredibly fast.

It doesn't seem like it's been 4 weeks already. Glad it's going alright.
-
Well, she came home yesterday, and went back in today ph34r. We had a very good night, I even slept on the floor beside her to make sure she didn't get herself up to mischief during the night. But she woke up at 5.30am and was very distressed. I kept giving her more and more painkillers but they weren't helping :'(. So I phoned the emergency vet and took her back through. She's in for at least tonight, and perhaps longer, if she needs more of the injections and is finding the tea soaks/cream too painful. Feel so bad for her :'(
-
What a shame that she's had to go back in, but she's in the right place until they get her pain relief sorted out. I hope she's back with you as soon as possible Jenny, and feeling more comfortable :bigarmhug:

She's still in - it looks like a secondary infection is taking hold, which explains everything. They are giving her stronger antibiotics. They've had to give up with the tea soaks as she just won't let them do it, and were going to start putting her into a bath instead. Can't wait to hear how successful that has been ph34r. She'll be back in the care of the oncology team tomorrow instead of the weekend staff, so she'll be glad to see friendly faces. Not sure if she'll be home tomorrow or not; I hope so :-\

Keeping everything crossed she can come home tomorrow :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug:

Poor love, I hope the antibiotics do the trick. Will be interesting to hear how the bath goes! Hope you get her home today Jenny. Big hugs for you both. Xx
-
She is doing better today :luv:. The vet is weaning her off of the strong painkillers she's been on, and if that goes well and her pain is under control she can come home tomorrow. The baths have been going well :shades:, very surprised at that, but she must be finding them soothing. Somehow I don't think I will have the same success with them that they are having! So everything crossed she will soon be home. It's so quiet without her.
-
Jenny so glad this update is better and Brodie is home tomorrow....why don't you mention to vet how difficult it is to bath her and ask how they approach it..or for ideas.
Love Julie xx

Am glad she is doing better today. Hope you'll have her home tomorrow.

Not long spoke to Spela the vet again and while Brodie's better in herself, she's still very unhappy at anyone going near her rear end. So she still needs those injections. She said it might be best for Brodie to stay in until she's over the worst of the effects of the radiation, as they are much more able to deal with things and keep her comfortable than I would :-\. It would only mean another couple of days or so, I think. We'll see how she is overnight.
I've bought her a cat litter tray for bathing her backside in, which might be easier for me if I can get her to sit in it :P
-
Hard as it is to leave her in the vets, I think it is the best option for now. Now that Brodie has her usual staff back in attendance, she will be more settled too. :luv: Love the idea with the litter tray, very clever!! :D

I think I am inclined to agree, they seem to be able to do these things in a much calmer (& maybe no-nonsense way) than we could, (certainly me) and though it upsets you not to have her home, maybe seeing her so uncomfortable and stressed is even more upsetting for you & that makes things worse all round. It will give you a little time to catch up on probably some much needed sleep if possible too, ready for her homecoming.
Sending plenty of love and :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: to help get you through.

You are both right :luv:. I was terrified putting the cream and tea soaks on, as I knew they would be very unpleasant for her. The vets have both the confidence and training (and very strong painkillers!) to deal with her in a way which causes her as little discomfort and stress as possible.
She's going in for a very quick general anaesthetic in the morning to clean out the area and make her more comfortable, and if that goes well she could be coming home tomorrow afternoon/evening :luv:. Hopefully now she seems to be over the worst of it I will find it easier to apply the cream etc. Can't wait to see her again :luv:

Hi Jenny, definitely a roller coaster you are on with Brodie and probably more of a bumpy ride to come at times but she seems to be going in the right direction. I would be useless at the nursing side - too wrapped round Rowan's paw to be strong and objective and do what's needed. From a selfish point of view as well, let them do the nursing and let Brodie think of you as the "goodie" who kisses, cuddles and makes everything better. :luv:
-
Oh lovely news, been watching for an update. Jenny, you have handled this so well, you deserve a huge pat on the back (or a large glass of something refreshing! ;) ). Will check back later to see how things have gone. X
-
Jenny I do hope the vet is happy with Brodie today and she will be home soon.

Well, barring something going wrong, Brodie will be coming home tomorrow at 3pm :shades:. Would loved for her to come home today, but the vet wants to be really sure she's ready :luv:. She's healing well, but still uncomfortable, so hopefully I will be able to handle her aftercare now it seems she's over the worst of it :luv:
-
:clapping: :clapping: :clapping: Great news! I'm so pleased that Brodie is coming home tomorrow. You've both been fantastic during a very stressful time. I see lots of cuddles for Princess Brodie over the next few days. :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: Diana xx

Yay!!! Well done Brodie :luv: So pleased to hear that Jenny, fantastic. Xx

Fab news, I bet you cannot wait. :happydance: :happydance: Gentle squidges from us :luv: :luv:

Great news

Wonderful news :D

She came home yesterday :luv:, although for a while I thought I was going to have to take her back in :-\. Thankfully her painkillers kicked in. We had a good night, and she's happy to go walks too.
Bathtimes are not going well ph34r. I used a storage box last night, and the water went everywhere but on Brodie. This morning I put her in the bath which went better, but still led to an unhappy girl. I knew it was too good to be true when the vets said she was enjoying them!
So I think she's definitely over the worst of it, but we still have a way to go. The vet says I will start noticing a difference over the next week :luv:
-
I'm really pleased she's home with you :D and that the vet has said you'll start noticing a difference in the next week, although I'm sure that seems like a long time right now. Hopefully the baths will become easier as time goes on too.
-
Aw- glad she is back. Hope you have a nice weekend. x
-
Welcome home PB :luv: good to know you are still in charge :005: Jenny, not sure the vet was being completely accurate on her reaction to her baths! Good luck with that and keep a mop handy! Xx
-
Jenny it's obvious in the cocker thinking world that Brodie feels you should get wet too :005:
Am glad to hear she is home where she has you.
Julie

Really glad she's home with you Jenny. She's just reminding you who's boss! I hope the vet's right and you start to see positive signs. Rowan sends her hugs :luv:
-
:luv:
So glad Brodie is home with you. Patience and perseverance with the baths, she is just gonna have to get used to it by the sounds of things. Everything crossed for a significant improvement by this time next week. Sending :bigarmhug: to you both.

I am seeing glimmers of the usual Brodie today :shades:. She demanded I take her over to see her friend Beau (through the fence), ran into my next door neighbour's house and refused to get off their sofa, and has started barking at random dogs again. She's still incredibly tired, and very uncomfortable at times, but there's a definite improvement today. She's coping better with me putting the cream on too, although still not terribly happy about it.
Im going to try doing the tea soaks again at some point, as I am rather fed up getting soaked three times a day :005:. She's not exactly thrilled about it either. Hopefully she won't find the tea soaks as bad as she did the last time I tried :luv:
-
Aren't they just amazing. You really can't keep a cocker down for long. So please Brodie's cheeky side is re emerging.
-
Good girl Brodie :luv: Glad you had a visit with Beau, and Daisy says it's fine to bark at random dogs and people, makes them feel loved! :luv: Jenny, you will be sharing tea baths with Brodie no matter what you want, bound to be good for your skin?! So pleased to hear such a positive update. X
-
That's great news!
-
Fantastic news! So pleased for you.
-
Just wondering how the shared tea baths are going? Hope you are both doing okay. x
-
Well, the last two or three days have seen a massive improvement :D. I just can't believe the change that's come over her. It's gone better than I'd ever hoped :luv:. There's still some slight discomfort, but only a little. She's happy (if that's the word) to get the tea soaks and cream done, which makes things easier. She's found out she likes drinking tea as well. We have an appointment tomorrow with the vet hospital, so I'm hoping they are as happy with her as I am.
For anyone interested, here is a pic of Brodie's behind :shades:. Considering the nature of it, I've left it as a link, but I'm really pleased with how things are looking. The patch on her side I mentioned a while back thankfully was only used to help with the radiation, so it's her poor backside that got all of the effects of it. I'm hoping once the hair round about the bald patch grows back, things will be less... noticable.

And to make up for that pic, here's one of her showing her cheeky side is back :luv:

Jenny, great picture (even the link ph34r). Its so good to hear its all going well. She's still as gorgeous as ever! Hope she's getting some nice biscuits to dip in her tea! :005:
-
Wonderful update and fab picture of Princess Brodie. Worth all the weeks of worry to see her looking so well. :luv: :luv: :luv: Diana xx
-
She so desperately needs a haircut - she can't even stand in the kitchen without sliding everywhere :005:. You can't tell from the pics, but she's lost two kilos in the last few weeks and is now down to 10.5kg - more due to the vet hospital staff being more strict with the treats than I am than anything else :005:. I'm hoping the vet will say she's ok to go to the groomers when I see her tomorrow.
I really am delighted with how great she is, I'd say she's happier in herself than she has been for a few months.
-
So pleased for you both. :luv:
-
Oh bless her, are you going to take up the offer of a framed piccy on the link ;) seriously though, so pleased she is doing so well, good luck for tomorrow, hope that she gets the OK for that haircut, sure she will feel even better (if possible) :luv:
-
Bless her. She's still the same gorgeous princess, bald patches or not :luv: :luv:

Think it would look lovely on the mantelpiece :005:.

I think Brodie's fur could fill several pillows at the moment, it's unbelievable how much of it there is!
Well, the appointment went incredibly well :luv:. I was worried that Brodie would be stressed at going back there, but she was so excited that we got banished from the waiting room for disruptive behaviour :005:. Then she kept trying to escape into the back of the vets, where the kennelling area is.
Her backside has completely recovered, and the vet is delighted with how she is doing. It's taken her less than two weeks since the radiation finished to get to this point. She goes back in two weeks for a further check up, and then after that she goes back every three months for monitoring. I asked the vet how long that tumour had been there, and she said not long at all. It's incredibly scary how aggressive that type of cancer is :-\. I hate that I had to put Brodie through the radiation and wish more than anything it hadn't been needed, but looking at her now I'm glad I went ahead. It's been an awful few weeks since the tumour was found, but I'm hoping we can get back to a normal life now :luv:
Just want to say thank you to everyone for their support over the past couple of months or so, it has helped me so much xxxx
-
Another lovely update. I'm sure you now feel it's been worth all the anxiety and stress to have Brodie making such a wonderful recovery. Love the bit about being banished from the waiting room!! :005: :005: Hopefully, it was caught in time and you can look forward to many more years with Brodie. :luv: :luv: Diana xx

So very pleased to read this latest update. You have been through such a journey and I truly hope you now have a more settled time to enjoy each others' company. She is gorgeous.
-
So glad it all went well, and she is feeling good enough to be norty :happydance: Think you could probably do with a well earned rest now - lots of fuss coming Brodie's way me thinks .
