He seems to need some basic training in house manners but he sounds lovely Black Cocker (http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=97583&st=0&#entry1445460)

Oh dear, what a bad life this lad has had  :(

Mind you - Molo would fail the "jumping and barking from behind the gate at visitors" test, too

I hope he finds a great home with someone who can give him the stimulation and security he needs  :)

Awww bless him - his "problems" sound very similar to Jackson's but he is coming on in leaps and bounds with the correct guidance. Hope he finds a suitable home soon.

Aaaww poor little thing, Billy would fail the test too, but soon settles down once he has said his Hello. Its natural isn't it? For a dog to want to see and sniff every visitor that enters its house and security  . Can't believe this little lad was beaten  :(  how very very cruel, hope he finds a home soon

We are struggling now - we have had 3 very kind offers of foster homes for Bayley but they are all a long way away from here. One is Stevenage (thanks for the offer Lyn), one is Nottingham and the third is Plymouth.

We do not have the transport available to take him to any of them. I can get him to Bristol but already have commitments moving other dogs that mean I cannot get him any further.

Vets cannot hold him after Friday.

HWAR pay petrol costs if it helps.

Does anyone know anyone who might be able to help this fella??

i hate the thought of any dog being pts when they are healthy, after having to have maisie pts in july when she was very old and very ill. i suffered then so much and still suffering now about it. i don't know how people can just throw away a healthy animal.i would do almost anything to prevent this kind of thing from happening.

Just a thought, be aware that the best rescues who do this often require your own dogs to be neutered when they are at an age they can be (as you often have to take in dogs before they are neutered, plus their philosophy is bound to be pro-neutering anyway)!

hi all, well things are not good here with bayley :( so far he has attacked millie  and tried to bite myself and jim and bobby the cat,but worse still he tried to attack my 15 year old son mike.obviously he cannot stay as i cannot have millie frightened.paddy loves him and bayley loves paddy,i suspect this is the problem but when he starts to go for us its like fear aggression not him being naughty.i feel such a failure and poor bayley will have to be moved again tomorrow.looks like he will go to the rescue where they can work on him for a while.
mike has had to go stay at his friends he was so shocked all he did was walk into the kitchen and bayley flew at him luckily he still had his harness on and i managed to get hold of it in time(thats when he tried to get me).luckily for millie he is wearing a cone collar and so he couldn't actually get hold of her but she wet herself  :( bless her she has had so much to put up with in her past and now this.have to say though paddy is gonna be heartbroken.

well tbh we could keep out of his way to see if he would settle but he hates millie.i don't understand it.now if he hated mad paddy that would make some sense but they love each other(literally paddy was flirting with bayley and then bayley tried to hump paddy) i just feel i have let him down and i am really upset for the poor little fella.paddy will sulk for weeks i think he really has taken a shine and seemed to have found another dog with as much energy as he has.

I was including Millie in your family! :)  I agree it really isn't nice for her to be so worried. On the otherhand there may be a chance it will settle down over time but it doesn't look like it right now and therefore I don't think you have much choice.

I'm sorry to hear things aren't working out Lyn :(  Poor Millie - hope she isn't too shaken up by the incident.

Don't feel bad that things didn't work out - thats just the risk you take when taking in foster/rescue dogs. Sometimes they will work out and sometimes they won't.

It is a shame but thanks ever so much for trying for him Lyn. We do appreciate it. I hope it won't put you off fostering again. (I have PMed you on DP)

We will pop Bayley into kennels over xmas (we have actually freed up a space today that we hadn't anticipated which is a relief), which will give him some space and give us some time to consider quite which of our experienced foster homes is going to be the best for his needs.

He clearly has not been properly socialised and need to learn some appropriate behaviours and be trained out of his inapproprite response patterns. I am sure he must be feeling very unsettled and is probably quite stressed as he has been through a lot of change in a few days.  He will probably need some fairly long term attention to sort him out. It will not be a quick fix I don't think.

So sorry you have had to put up with the problems Lyn, but we will have him back tomorrow.

Have a restful xmas!

oh alison i only blame myself not anyone else, and certainly not you.i have just spoken with sara and she is going to try and pick him up in the morning at about 9.i don't think paddy is ever going to forgive me(i think pads may be gay  )i think bayley has attached himself to paddy and he is protecting him from everyone else.if millie were not here i would perservere because you can see he is going to make a great dog for someone.if you had been beaten for nothing you would prob react in a similar way.this will NOT put me off fostering in fact the reverse is true i am more determined than ever.if bayley had been socialised from an early age he wouldn't have the problems faced now.it's so sad. :( he is sleeping now, when i came upstairs bayley was asleep in the store room, paddy is asleep in bed with jim and millie howled the house down(must be the shock she hasn't done that since the first week)but she is now asleep and snoring her little head off on the sofa.

Well more developments on the Bayley front.

We were concerned about putting him into kennels given the 3 months he spent locked in a shed and being beaten to the extent he suffered a serious eye injury.... we were worried about the negative connotatoins and how he would react. He is a cheery soul and we didn't want him going downhill. Carol got in touch with cocker rescue to see if they knew of anyone who might be able to help out.

I am delighted to say that your very own JayneS kindly agreed to try with Bayley amongst her merry mob. She has well established oldies to teach him about pecking order - hopefully Bayley will settle in as he will not be a central character amongst so many established cockers. I left him with Jayne a couple of hours ago so it will probably be a case of watch this space. Thanks Jayne for taking the wee fella on at such short notice. I know you will let us know how he gets on!

I should also like to thank Penny B who offered to take Bayley despite having a full house at the moment (have you still got a house then Penny??!!   )
I really didn't want to put upon Penny as she does so much already and it would have been very tricky for her. She came back online last night and offered again to give Bayley a go as she was worried about his fate. Thanks Penny. You are a brave and stalwart cocker friend!!

So it's a very BIG THANKYOU to everyone involved in Bayley's little saga. (which is quite a lot of us now! )

Hope the little lad works out!
heartbreaking when it doesn't.
I adopted another goldie last December and he ended up taking a chunk out of Doug.
Dogs are like people and don't get along with every one they meet and i think we ask a lot of our dogs to just rub along.
I wish I'd had been more knowledgeable 12 months ago as I may have been able to work through it who knows?
The best news I had came in the new year when I found out he had a new home and was doing well.
Best of luck Bailey I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you guys.

Well Bayley seems to be getting along ok so far - we've had a taste of what he's like with visitors as when Andrew came home from work, he launched into a ferocious volley of deafening barking which lasted on & off for about 10 minutes but Andrew just ignored him & Bayley is now sitting quietly in the kitchen with him :) He is very fond of the ladies and is getting told off good & proper by our girls who are not impressed with having his nose glued to their behinds (he doesn't care whether they are spayed or not ). Hopefully he will learn some doggy manners with a bit of time ;) We think he has had some formal training as when he does a sit, he sometimes also does the automatic whizz round & finish that obedience dogs do. Looks like he might be at least partly Working Cocker as his build is very leggy & his head is not show-type - a very handsome boy though with the shiniest black coat :) Will keep you all posted :)

jane all bailey was interested in whilst he was here was paddy's bum :o and paddy thought it was great  jim is gutted.he is now convinced that paddy will look like bailey in a years time but i am sure pads won't be so tall.
i am so pleased bailey is with you jane.with your experience he couldn't be in a better place if anyone can help him i'm sure you can.give him a hug from me and a girlie kiss from paddy(who i have to say is either sulking or is still bone tired after last nights shenanigans)he really enjoyed baileys company.millie on the other hand couldn't be happier.she is strutting round downstairs checking every nook and cranny to make sure he's not hiding anywhere. :P

We think he's probably all Worker, Lyn so I doubt Paddy will get quite as tall. When I was grooming Bayley tonight, I found he has rear dew claws, something you hardly ever see in show-type Cockers but is v common in Workers. He's probably got some kangaroo blood too going by how easily he can get over our baby gate

I would love another working cocker, but I have to be so careful about which dog I add to my tribe as Doug is a very sensetive little chap who is very wary of a lot of dogs.
What I'm looking for is a  confident working cocker that displays lots of calming signals.
Does such a working spaniel exist?
If asking for a calm working cocker isn't an impossible request, the dog I need has to have strong working and play drives as we do lots of training with our dogs on the degree course.
If ever a dog like this comes up Jane or any one else on here I would love to hear about it.
Best of luck, sounds like the lad has fallen on his feet for christmas.

He didn't like all our dogs to begin with Lyn but he learns quickly & now there is just a little friction with our older boy which I imagine will fade as time goes on (and the neutering takes effect ;)) so hopefully this side of his personality won't put people off offering him the home he deserves :)

I just wish I didn't have dogs with issues with boisterous tendencies as he looks a beautiful lad.
Someone must want him to nurture and develop.
