Hi. As some of you may know i'm picking my orange roan puppy, Honey, up next month. My question is (and it may sound silly) - are orange roans supposed to have black or brown noses? I've looked at many photo's and some have black and some have brown! Honey's is black.....

I always thought ideally they should have black noses but apparently my girls breeder says that if their noses are brown, it means they carry the choc / liver gene

That's right Gill - orange puppies born with brown noses/foot pads carry the liver gene - if their pigment is very pale, they would typically be called lemons. Not to be confused with oranges whose noses turn brown from black at certain times of the year due to seasonal/hormonal variations (ours do that but their noses always go black again eventually)
