Just curiosity - Is eye testing and hip scoring only available for KC Reg. dogs??
-
They have to be registered to be done through the BVA schemes although I think dogs like my Vegas who are registered on the obedience and working trial register only can be done also. In fact, I'm sure of it as we had a lurcher in for hip scoring last year.

Thanks for your reply Gill but can I ask and what the BVA Scheme is?
-
Hi Maria, the BVA is the British Veterinary Asscociation. You might find this link about the BVA eye testing scheme helpful Eye Testing (http://www.bva.co.uk/about/eyeScheme.htm)
If a dog is tested under the BVA/KC scheme the results of the eye test are then printed on the registration document of the dog/bitch. I think my also be published in the KC Breed Record Supplement but Jane will be able to confirm this ;)

Thanks Gilly :D

Yep that's right. To complicate matters further, there is also the European eye-testing scheme - results under this scheme didn't used to be printed in the BRS but they are now.

I think it's certain opthalmologists who have "opted out" of the BVA scheme & choose to use the ECVO scheme instead - Dr Barnett is the main one, not sure if there are any others in the UK

I don't know if it is me reading it wrongly but I've found this information in the latest BRS a little confusing, as it states pass or unaffected, but doesn't state what they were tested for

It is confusing isn't it? I notice there's also a separate list of AHT eye-test results too so we seem to have 3 possible schemes now
