Title: Pigeon Chested

Hi there has anyone ever heard of pigeon chested in cocker spaniels. What exactly is it and is it a serious condition. Just curious as there is a possible referral to the vets that I work in from another practice but I had never heard of the condition, obviously thats not the proper name but cant spell or pronounce it properly  :dunno:

Its posh name is pectus carinatum. Just wondering though if the vet might be mistaking the normal forechest in a cocker for p. carinatum. If you have a look at this pdf it shows how the front assembly should look in a cocker.

Hi thanks for the reply. Well the wee one was in today and what a cutie. The vet showed me the xrays and it is quite extreme. The sternum is short and to vertical so no where near the ribcage, the diaphgram is in tact but pushed forward as is the liver and the heart is lower down than normal and a bit squashed as are the lungs. Dont know if this is a common thing in cockers but the vet definately things although congenital definately hereditary as well
