Title: Two Bitches does it affect seasons ?
Post by: penguins87 on March 23, 2011, 09:49:36 AM
We have two bitches Beau being nearly two and Lottie being just over a year old.

We recently took Beau(nearly two ) to be checked out by the vet as we have never seen any signs of her ever having had a season. She was perfectly fine and dandy . The vet did say that she could well have had a silent first season so maybe we missed it . The breeder did inform us that her line did not have a first season until about fourteen months . She had at that time mum, grandma and great grandma so a lot of experience in that line.

Lotties Breeder told us  also around fourteen months although a different line altogether

So my question is have any of you lovely  experienced cocker owners found bringing in a new bitch affects seasons and do you think Beau is hanging on for Lottie ?

Beau was about 10 months old when we bought Lotties home .

Any comments welcomed  :D

It can happen, but in my case having 3 unspayed bitches in one household made no difference whatsoever.

My Inca was 25 months before her first season, it's just the way she is, her seasons now are every 12-13 months, but we have one girl here who's seasons are every 5 months - we bought her in, two of my girls tend to have their seasons only days apart every time.

Thank you for the replies interesting what you say about Inca ..

Maybe Beau has never had a season as yet silent  or otherwise and I will just need to wait and see what the spring weather brings ! Quite a lot of dog lovers telling me their bitches have just come into season along with the change in temperature.

My two older girls have just finished a season(about 6 weeks ago) and I thought it would have brought Saffy (11mths) into season for the first time.  She started swelling and got a bit narky but no bleeding at all.  When that happened, I took her to the vet(we were going for wormer anyway) and he said that although girls in the same house usually menstrate at the same time, it very rarely afftects the first season, only subsequent.
We are still waiting!!
