we are seriously considering getting a puppy from a breeder that lives about 10 miles away the pups where born last saturday 6 pups one stillborn 2 died soon after and 2 where lain on :'( i am really upset over this is it a bad sign that the puppies died there is only one remaining and we are going to see her in a few weeks but is it a worry or just something although sad that happens naturally also there is several other dogs there but i am worried about early socialization reply`s will be very much appreciated

It's unusual to lose virtually a whole litter but it does happen sadly. I'm surprised about two dying from being lain on though - if you give a litter 24 hour supervision, this can generally be avoided (we don't leave our litter at all for the first couple of weeks - someone is with them all the time, day or night). The breeder will hopefully put extra effort into rearing and socialising the remaining pup (we reared a singleton pup last year which was quite hard work but he's turned into a lovely little chap :luv:).

my Grace :luv: :luv: is a singleton and is a great little cocker a little overshot but this does not affect her apart from picking things up sometimes

Penny is a singleton. She was one of only two and then her wee brother died. The breeder put her in with another litter at five weeks as her mum was rather indifferent to her. She was well socialised when we got her at 10 weeks and was a remarkably well adjusted pup from the off.

I would think that being brought up as a single pup is not the end of the world, most good breeders - as proved here - have provisions for this kind of thing, but if you are at all unsure/unhappy about the circumstances involved, I think I would be looking to seek out another breeder. I say this because of what you mentioned in Puppies thread about your friend trying to persuade you to take the only one left.

I hand reared a singleton some years back- he's a very exceptional chap of 12 now and very person centred due to being so much handled I guess. His owner never had a single problem when he went to her at 10 weeks.

Beau was the only pup of a litter of 3 to make it. Like you we did worry about possible problems but once seen we couldn't forget him.
He is just perfect and absolutely adorable, we couldn't imagine life without him :luv:

i response to being talked into the other pup my friend had started trying to do this before the pups died and she was right in doing this cause i kinda wanted the other cause it was black and tan not for its tempermant and so i am actually thankful for this, we are going to see the puppy anyway and if she seems happy and healthy we will get her i am really exited but very worried please say a prayer she will be healthy i need all the help i can get :005: P>s. the pups half brother qualified for cruft last year and won 5th in his group so this is kinda reassuring :D

Good luck seeing the pup try to go with your head not your heart easyer said than done ;)

As jane has said, you would normally stay with the pups 24/7 to try to stop mum from lying on them. Our ruby dooby was a singleton and she's gorgeous. She does still struggle with her weight though which i think stems from having the milk bar to herself! :D

talked to breeder today she said the puppy was doing really well wich relieved me very much i got phone number for updates andwe will see them in ruffly 3 weeks quite exited very relieved
