I don't understand the sable colour can someone educate me? I have rang a few breeders and quite a few have had sable Cocker Spaniels.
Some of them have said they have a chocolate sable or a Tri Roan Sable, Dark Sable and even a light Sable.
Is there such thing as all these coloured Sables? or is there just one sable? I'm So confused!
Thanks

Now there's a question :D Opinions really do vary on sables and you're not going to get a definitive answer I'm afraid. "Sable" has become the "must have" colour for some breeders and some are now breeding as many colour variations as possible by mating sable to assorted particolours (although the enthusiasts who first began breeding sables in the UK from imported dogs only ever bred solid sables and bred for quality and type not just colour as many do today)
As far as the Kennel Club goes, puppies can only be registered as "sable" (no other variation on sable is accepted for registration purposes). Sable (any variation) is now considered "undesirable" under the breed standard but that's a whole other story ph34r

I know i shouldnt but to pass the time ph34r ive been looking at puppies on the net and came accross what was described as a blue roan sable ??
To be honest i cannot believe the price these people are asking based purely on colour !! I saw one litter i think it had sable, liver (or chocolate as it was described ) and black. The blacks were a certain price then the chocolate £100 more and the sable a shocking £250 more. And thats for puppies from the same littler the only difference was colour ???

Hey chezer really can't help on the sable colour if it was me I'd google it on images..never did I know how many different coloured cockers you can get until I looked into getting one seen a lot of roans still don't really understand what that means(chose a golden boy pick him up Friday eeekkkk) I totally agree mariandennis tbh I don't understand why girls are more than boys xx
-
I was always led to believe girls cost more because some ppl would breed for money, not 100% sure how true this is tho x

I've heard that Tracy but you can stud a dog so you'd get money for that..I think its wrong tbh they've all come from the same mum and dad same house same everything  xx

I agree, I do know some breeders that just put endorsements on so you cant breed from their dogs til health checks are done and as far as I've seen some charge same in that case for both sexes. Bella's breeder has charged the same for all her pups so I'm happy x

There is absolutely no moral justification for charging more for bitches than dogs - breeders who do this can only be interested in getting more money for their pups (on the basis that some naive buyers will pay more for a bitch than a dog). In the old days, it was more common to have different prices for different genders (when dog puppies were often not wanted by the general public) but those days are long gone - nowadays I can't think of any reputable breeders who charge differently for dogs and bitches.

In theory you can offer a pet dog at stud but in practice you're unlikely to make any money as there simply is no demand from good breeders for the services of a pet boy, no matter how nice he might be.

That's good then Tracy not heard of the endorsements before... Xx

We had to sign that Flo was just to be a pet and not to be bred from, the whole litter had the same conditionals and both male and female same price. Btw never seen a Sable, but have googled a few times, and read many complicated descriptions of the genetics :o. Actually they are very pretty , but shoot me down I just really love all the traditional colours.
