Title: Are certain colours more hairy/fluffy.
Post by: Jane57 on August 08, 2012, 01:24:28 PM
I am noticing that the light roans ie orange/lemon etc really dont have as much fur/fluff as say Riley who is a blue roan and VERY hairy.
Is it the case that the blue roans and blacks are hairier or is it just by chance as I have seen blue roans who arent as hairy as Riley even as pups .

I have 2 blue roans both of them are entire George who is 7 is very fluffy, when i have not stripped for a while, people naturally asume he has been neutered   so now i have to make sure, that i keep on top of his stripping :D Hamish his Nephew, who is 5 has very sleek and shiny fur i just have to do the minimum of stripping, usually just his head  :shades:

My black dog Basil has a very heavy coat, much more so than my golden Cocker, Barney. It is too early to tell with Alfie.  :luv: I'm not sure whether there is a link with colour or not?

As a general rule, solid blacks (incl black & tans) have thicker coats than red/golds although there are always exceptions. Same goes for the particolours, blue roans (especially dark blues) will often have thicker coats than orange roans (although exceptions exist, same as for solids)

Ollie my orange roan is very easy to dry and to brush......he has a very fine, silky coat.  Luis is black...and although he is fine haired....his coat is thicker and takes ages to dry out.

Had two blue roan girls....and both had thick coats.  They were the most difficult of the four cockers I have owned to groom.  Had to brush them every single day, or they'd knot.   :luv:

I am interested in this too.  Dexter's fur is all over the place.  I brush him everyday with a slicker and 5 minutes later it is still falling out!!!  How do you know when they get their adult coat?  Is all the fur loss his puppy coat falling out or will he just be a hair monster all the time

Juno is a light blue roan and not very hairy.  She lost loads of her coat after her first season and it's not returned yet.  She's now spayed so I expect she might get woolier in the next year or so. :luv:

Sophie is a dark roan coat which is fairly thick, Emma is orange roan and fine coated but it does knot up more than Sophies.

I'll have to post a photo of Charlie at 6 months...he was harier than Riley is.

It's ok now he's a "big boy" but even getting him stripped his back/body is ok but his legs are still really thick with fur.

I met two light blue roans at a show...one had really fine silky fur, the other had quite thick corser hair.

Would love to see Charlie at 6 months.
Charlie is a great example in my opinon size wise and build wise of what I think Riley will be like at his age.
Though Riley mightnt be so tall,
I honestly swear that since he got trimmed on tuesday he is hairer since then  :lol2:

Ok this was Charlie at 6 months. I think all his fluff makes him look really fat :(

Bearing in mind I had trimmed his legs (it was the only way to stop my dad shaving Charlie) and I had trimmed his feet, otherwise he hadn't been cut at all.

I have two neutered males. Charlie is B&W ticked and his coat is quite thick and dense.  Dexter is light blue roan and his coat is beautifully fine and silky.

Even though she's a black, Penny's coat is quite fine. I'm happy with that state of affairs, although I'd love to know how to get it to lie flat!

Wasn't he just. It got to the point when I'd put his harness on we'd totally loose it in his fur  :005:

Charlie was a hairy pupster right enough,I dont think he looked fat though.
I had two people (neighbors) comment on Riley looking chubby yesterday,

I had a lady at one of our ringcrafts commenting that Charlie was fat...

He was pretty hairy considering I'd already trimmed his legs and feet :)

Yep that happens to Flo often, and yet when she's wet she looks just fine.
