Ben's being sick - any ideas?
« on: October 29, 2006, 02:23:34 PM »
Hi all,
just wondered if you have any suggestions. For the last 4 nights Ben has been sick during the night.  He sleeps in the bedroom with us so we get a ring side view unfortunatley.  Each time is seems like greeny bile, and last night had grass in it.

He is only sick just the once at night, and he is fine in the day.  He looks well, is full of bounce and eating like a horse (or should that be a cocker!) so I am not too worried, but more confused as to why he is being sick.

The room is not to hot, and his bed time routine has not changed at night, he has 2 biscuits to go to bed with, the same ones he will have in the day so I don't think that there is a problem with the bics.  He dosn't seem distressed when he is sick, just throws up, looks at us as if to say are you going to clean that up, then goes back to bed. >:(

Any ideas? this is new for Ben, he is not normally sick unless he is properly unwell.  I think becuase he seems so well in himself I am not as concerned as I would be normally - or should I be?
Also  he was due to be wormed this weekend, but I have not done that because of him being sick at night, should I wait until this is sorted out, do you think a worm tablet will upset him even more?

Hello

Poor boy, i know what you mean, my dog sleeps in my room and when he is sick i get to listen to it and the clean it up.

Sounds strange that it is greeny in colour that suggests that it isnt too serious and the grass suggests that it is acidy.

Maybe it would be an idea to worm him anyway, just incase and that could get rid of anything nasty that he may have picked up.

Hope this helps, as he is well in himself it doest sound too serious but if it continues i would pop him along to the vets.

How is he now?

Could he be eating grass  just before you go to bed?  I know they eat it to make themselves sick, so if he is helping himself to a snack before bedtime that could explain it.  If not no ideas sorry.

The greeny colour is bile, and suggests that he's being sick on an empty stomach. Trouble is that it can cause problems because of the acidity.

I know that several members have had this problem, and if you do a search you should find it (I think Colin may have been one???)

I have an idea that you should give a little something at bedtime but I'm not sure. If I get a minute I will try doing a search for you.

btw, I think in previous threads we have discovered that it is a myth that dogs eat grass to make themselves sick (although that IS why cats do it). I think we agreed that it was a dietary supplement.

Indie used to do this - since having a bonio at bedtime, it hasn't happened again. Also, feeding twice a day instad of once helps too.
