When my girls litter died back in the summer, my vet offered to adminster this drug, she was 44 days pregnant at the time, she said it's quite aggressive and she would need to go into the vet hospital until it was all over as she could be quite poorly with it.  :(

No apparently this drug can safely be used to induce canine abortions up to 45 days into the pregnancy.

Jane
Hmmmm not sure how I feel about that

:( Me either, if its gone that far, surely its best to let the pregnancy progress, would mum suffer a kind of depression after going so far and then no puppies?

I doubt very much if this drug is commonly used at such a late stage - only in exceptional circumstances I should imagine (I was just quoting the 45 days from the licencing specifications)

Trouble is I suspect it will be used, by some, at that stage, as this is around the time (give or take a few days) that you can tell if a bitch is definitely expecting  :(

Have Tia booked in now for her injections - which have to be given on day 3 and day 5.  Big sigh of relief......
Will wait until her season is over before she is spayed - i think its the safest option.

Was at the vet with Saffi this morning who howled the place down so wasn't able to ask why the injection is given on those days and when the best time for a spaying following a season should be?!

Best time for spaying is usually 3 months after season, however mine did Ruby 5 weeks after with no problems.

As a practice policy we WILL NOT give this injection at that late a stage in the pregnancy, the very latest we prefer is around 20 days post mating as it is so traumatic to both dog and owner.

Sorry didn't mean to upset anyone just wanted you to not panic quite so much re immediate time factors    :(
