Right audience, wrong forum...?
« on: June 15, 2007, 01:04:39 PM »
Apologies if this is slightly off-topic for this forum but you guys are certainly the right people to be asking...

I want to offer Woody out to stud, purely on an informal basis and certainly not as a business venture or breeding-machine.

Is there a forum on here that is more suited to that type of thread? Admin/Mods - if this is deemed as advertising please feel free to close/remove the thread.

I'll leave it at that for now until I can establish how to go about it/whether it's allowed on here.

Many thanks

Julian, you are posting in the right forum if you are asking for general advice about using your dog at stud but the wrong forum if you're seeking to advertise his services as this is strictly prohibited on COL. Have you read our FAQ article on offering pet dogs at stud? You can find it HERE. Reading this should give you basic info on the sort of knowledge you need to have before taking this step. Can I ask why you want to offer Woody at stud and whether you are prepared for what might happen if he is ever used?

Hi Jane - thanks for pointing me towards that article - it answers a lot of initial questions and shows me that I'd have some homework to do first as well as some thinking regarding possible consequences.

I thought that advertising probably wasn't allowed which is why I tried to word my enquiry correctly.

To answer your question, Woody comes from a litter my dad bred and I'd like to do my bit to continue the line. Woody is such a beautiful dog, obedient (well, fairly  :D he is just turned 2 yrs old and not yet the finished article as we started late), loving and so eager to please. His training is really coming on and I rough shoot with him. His Kennel Club 5 Generation Pedigree list 36 Field Trial Champions including Mallowdale, Maesydderwen, Wernffrwd and Gwibernant lines and I think he'd help create some very promising litters.

Like I said, it's just a thought at the moment. I just feel it would be a shame NOT to breed from him.

regards

I would contact a Professional Gun dog trainer/breeder and get their advice on whether you're dog would be a suitable candidate. Please think carefully about breeding and remember youre dog has the easy bit. There are way too many dogs being bred for my liking and would far rather see a dog produce a litter that have homes before its mated than just cause they think there dog is good.

Im not being horrid or anything but its something not to take on board without covering abs everything involved.
