any unused birds/rabbits (that don't go to the guns or beaters) from our shoots are delivered to the Estate where they are prepared and sold on via butchers/markets etc. I think it's a fair deal for using their land (and equally, by letting us utilize the land and develop pheasant cover etc they are keeping the countryside alive
)
It is a shame that birds are low value at the moment....I was speaking to a gamekeeper this week and he said at least it stops poachers - 15 years ago when the cost of a pheasant was worth the time and effort of preparing a bird, there was much more poaching going on
at this stage in the season there's not that many birds going spare - Cob-web, this year you need to be prepared to get the birds in bulk at the start of the season
