Can someone enlighten me
« on: September 03, 2012, 10:51:21 PM »
What does 'progeny not eligible for registration' mean?  Does it mean there are problems within their pedigree?  What implications does it have?  Thanks for replies!

It means that if you breed from your dog, any offspring produced will not be able to be KC registered.
If you do wish to breed and register the offspring with KC, you will have to ask your dogs breeder to 'lift' the endorsment - which would be at their discretion  ;) :D

Thanks Bluebell for your reply. But does it mean that they are not 'as good' as others that do not have this?  Does it mean that somewhere in their background, perhaps way back, that there is some sort of hereditary disease that could reoccur in any progeny?  I don't want to breed but obviously want to make sure I have a very healthy dog.  I saw a breeder's website whose dogs looked lovely and she may be having a litter next month but this was on the contract that you needed to be aware of if you bought one of the puppies from that litter.

Your orange roan is VERY pretty by the way.  I am looking for a new baby either a pale orange roan or orange and white - is it ok for me to ask you where yours came from?

No, it means that the breeder of the dogs cares what happens to their puppies and do not want them being bred from willy nilly  ;)
I will PM you Tevas breeder  :D

i ALWAYS endorse my pups against breeding purposes.....i have spent alot of time, care and money ensuring that my dogs and pups are DNA tested and of good quality and sound temperament,i dont want any pups that i have lovingly bred, being bred with an untested, or bad tempered dog or worse still ending up in a puppy farm.....  ;)

Bluebell and Ebony have it absolutely right. When I bred golden retrievers all my puppies were endorse. I only lifted one endorsement and that was because all the health tests and the right sire was used for a litter. The lifted one was my own. I automatically put endorsements on the entire litter!

Dexter has now completed all tests necessary for him to be put into the golden retriever programme. Not sure if I want to go down that route but at least it gives me the option. Hoping to meet his breeder at Richmond to discuss removing his endorsement.

Oh thanks everyone!!  Now I understand!  It is a very good thing, I had got totally the wrong end of the stick, I hadn't realised it was to protect your dogs.  From what you have all said I am VERY glad it happens.  Dogs are like babies, they only have you and have to trust you to look after them totally - when I see programmes about dogs being mistreated or kept in horrid conditions, it makes me feel sick to my stomach.  Thank you doggy friends on line!!
