Brilliant walk
« on: September 22, 2012, 05:38:50 PM »
Pippa, Barney and I found a brilliant walk today.  I was talking to a neighbour who said her husband had been "up Weets" yesterday with their dog.  I have heard people mention Weets before so came home, googled it and found it was a big hill just outside Barnoldswick.  I asked the dogs and they fancied giving it a go so we set off straight away as it was such a lovely day.  The walk is brilliant.  Lots of fields to run through with little streams, big boggy bits to slomp in, lots of sheep muck to roll in and fabulous views all the way up to the top from where you can see Pendle Hill and even the Lake District in the far distance.  A lovely guy with a border terrier and a JRT showed us where to go when we got a bit lost (perhaps printing off the map I found on the internet would have been a good idea rather than relying on memory  )  Most of the fields were empty of livestock so there was plenty of off-lead action.

On the way back we had another first, stopping at a dog-friendly pub we haven't been to before for a drink.  Pippa came with me to the bar while Barney saved a table in the beer garden and was cooed over by a group of regulars.  The only bit the dogs didn't like was bathtime in the garden when they got home - all that lovely smelling reminder of their day out washed away  ;)

I can't believe this walk has been on our doorstep all this time and we only found it today.  It is literally a 15 minute walk across town before we are up in the fields.  OH was working today, so we will have to take her along and show her the views next weekend.

Am googling it now, always good when people post about good walks.

We went up Aire Force (Ullswater) last week, spectacular waterfall, if you walk up the hill you get to pools of water big enough for the dogs to swim in.  Crystal clear, nice and deep (chilly though).  I got in one of the pools with Bella and had a swim, was very very nice.

Highly reccomended.

Aire Force sounds great.  We're getting the dogs swimming lessons for Christmas  :005: to help them get over their fear of water so if it works we'll have to try those pools out.
