DNA PRA test
« on: March 02, 2013, 05:22:25 PM »
Can anyone tell me how I get this test done, vets I have spoken to do not seem to know; do I have to send a blood sample to the USA? If so how is this done?

You can go to the Optigen website and you will get the info from there. You will need and blood test and mouth swab, done by the vets. They will need to be sent to Antigen (spelling) and forwarded on. PM me for further details if necessary as I have had all the tests done on my dogs

I prefer sending it straight to Optigen, it only takes about 10 days for the results rather than the 6 weeks Antagene quote.

Lynne, why do you need to send both?  I remember the first sample we sent was blood, they extracted the DNA and sent it to Optigen, that's why it takes so long.

I always use Laboklin...I know it isn't the most popular but I like them, it's a lot less phaff to send for the kit and sent it back to them in the UK. I also like that you pay Sterling not Dollars so know exactly what it costs.

The down side is the KC don't post the results on their web site.

Sorry, the swab test is for FN, read the OP wrong.

Same here - we got some recent tests back by email in just over a week and the actual certificates only a few days after that :shades:

I am trying to find the best way to get my working cocker screened for the DNA tests: prcd-PRA and FN

Can you get the same offer as above for prcd-PRA and FN Familial nephropathy?

Another question: does the Kennel Club not accept any results from Laboklin, if so why?

Does the Kennel Club accept all results from Optigen, Antagene and the Animal Health Trust?

Think the Antagene offer above only applies to the prcd_PRA test - they did have an offer on the FN test not that long ago but looks like it's expired now.

Depends on what you mean by "accept" regarding the KC & Laboklin tests. Laboklin is not licensed to offer the prcd_PRA test in the UK (Optigen is the only company legally licensed to offer this test here). This means while the KC will make a note of prcd_PRA results done via Laboklin, they won't add them to the health test database & so they won't appear if someone does a search on the KC's Health Test finder. The KC will accept FN tests done via both Antagene & Laboklin & add them to the official database.

Don't think there are currently any Cocker tests being offered by the AHT - if there were, the KC would accept results as long as the AHT is licensed to offer that test.
