Hi, quick question please
« on: September 19, 2013, 06:51:37 PM »
Our boy will be one tomorrow, he only has one testicle which has descended, I was hoping to show him and breed him.  Will either of these be possible with this affliction? He's not the only male in the litter to have this problem x

You will not be able to show him with only one descended testicle. With his history I would say not to breed but to have him neutered to stop any problems in the future.

Two descended testicles is a requirement in the breed standard, and monorchidism/ undescended testicles may well be a hereditary defect so breeding is a no-no unfortunately.

Thanks, of the 5 boys in the little, two are fine, two have one testicle and one has none? Breeder doesn't know where the affliction came from

Think it would be carried by both parents.

It is hereditary but not every male dog may be affected although they can still carry and pass on the defect; in your boy's case both parents will be carriers. Affected dogs and their siblings and parents should not be bred from.

Has the vet checked him recently? We took Alfie for his 1yr check up when we thought we would have to discuss the removal of an undescended testicle at 14mths. When the vet checked him the 2nd testicle had descended although you couldn't see it without looking really closely, but she said it was definitely there.

I can feel the other one up half way between his descended one and his dinkle, but it's certainly not down,

My Toby only has one. I can't feel the other, so many different opinions when it comes to what to do!!. I think I'm going to give it till he is 18 months then go to the vets. Ideally I'd like them to be able to 'pull it down' but my vets are money grabbers so they will want to do the most expensive procedure I'm sure!!

When Alfie lies on his back I can only see one testicle, the other one always seems to be 'hidden' but the vet assures me it HAS descended!
