Good News From Optigen

As I understand it, the KC won't consider publishing DNA test results unless they come through the AHT but whether this might change now the Optigen test is a mutation test, I don't know. Re the Cocker Club, last I heard a list of Optigen results would be considered for inclusion in the annual Welfare Report as long as there were at least 20 dogs tested. This shouldn't be a problem as I think well over 40 UK dogs have now been Optigen tested (although not all owners may want results published of course). I imagine a copy of the relevant Optigen email/letter would be needed before publication to ensure accuracy. Hopefully, more info will be available soon.

Just had confirmation from Penny Lester:

"Hello Louise
The Cocker Club are starting a Optigen list in the 2006 summary as there seems to be a lot more breeders having it done and of course it will be free! I know you have had some of your dogs done so send me a copy please.
Perhaps you will spread this amongst other breeders who have had their dogs tested
Many thanks
Penny"

Please circulate!

Thanks

Good news Louise :)

Also before this thread is put to bed, just a clarification about Sandy's initiative to list A1 Optigen results on her own website - this isn't being organised by the EFNF but by Sandy personally with monies raised going to the fund. The aim is to help breeders identify clear dogs & raise the profile of Optigen testing generally to encourage others to test their dogs.

Jane

I am really pleased to see that you have clarified the situation, it is very clear on Sandy's website that she is doing it the way you have said and it is good to let people know that she is so keen to improve our dogs and we should all be grateful for what she is doing with the FN fund.

Jane I had misunderstood this originally and had though it was going to be a register maintained by the EFNF but it is actually on Sandy's personal site, sorry if anyone also misunderstood after reading my post but hopefully this matter has now been clarified, I have amended my original post to this effect.
