Monty just isn't eating :(
« on: August 10, 2015, 05:11:56 PM »
Hi all,

I know this topic has been done to death but after some advice please!

Monty is now 5 and a half months and is fed on a raw diet. It's an all in one raw food so he has the same at every meal.

Recently, for the past few days he has only been eating one of his meals (out of 3) the rest just gets completely left.

Could he be bored with the food? Or is it simply because he isn't hungry?

He is his normal bouncy happy self and drinking normally! He will also happily eat a few treats throughout the day.

I've tried giving him some sardines to see if changing it helps, but he will eat a bowl then the next time not bother....

Not sure what to do! Help! Thanks everyone! Xx

Jinley is raw fed and she seems to only eat when she needs to and only until she is full.  She kind of self regulates her meals.  Sometimes she misses her breakfast and eats more later.

Could you try him with a chicken wing or something with a little more texture?

Also from memory, that was around the age that Jinley dropped down to 2 meals for the same reason.

Not much help sorry!

Coral was just the same - I think it may be part of the growth cycle, she's now 6.5 months old and back to eating two meals a day, happily.

If he's a nice shape and you can't see his ribs, I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks both. Patp, good idea I'll get some wings today!

Pearly - that's good to hear. He's completely fine within himself and looking healthy so I'm not panicking too much.

I left him a small amount of food down during the night last night and he's licked the bowl clean, I'm wondering if he is, as you say, self regulating! Will try him on some wings today and see how he gets on!

Thanks xx

Maybe he's bored with minces, or has gone off the brand you're using. As well as chicken wings you could try chunks of meat to give him different textures to eat.

Thanks Elaine, by chunks of meat do you mean things like beef? What parts etc would you suggest? Sorry if that's a bit of a silly question!

If you have a good butcher or a Morrisons nearby they have beef or lamb heart which cut into chunks is really tasty.  I just flash fry very briefly to get the flavour and the smells going!
