Someone on another fourm I use has got a collie and her son has become badly allergic to it. she wants rid of it by today or its going to be PTS. Anyone in the Retford area that can help???

Have you tried posting on DogPages?  I doubt very much that a home can be found so quickly, but it's worth a try.

How can people do this, it's always a possibility that this kind of thing can happen, it could happen to any one of us on this forum with our dogs and kids!!, there has to be another way.

In my opinion if they are serious about putting the dog down so quickly without trying to re-home then really they don't care anyway.

My Ronald was a rescue, left at a dogs home when he was 11, this was due to a childrens allergy too.  At least they took him to the dogs home and not had him put down.

I'm sorry, but that's awful. Why today? Please at least tell her to drop it off at a vets, and they can rehome it. NO vet should put a healthy dog to sleep, and your friend deserves a slap for having one in the first place, and then doing this so callously.

Edited to add;I'll take it, rather than PTS, and I'll find a damn good home for it, so on no acount have it PTS! I don't even know where she is, but please don't let this happen!

I agree it is shocking - but I know that there are vets who will PTS healthy dogs - both in  rescue centres and private practice - there are just not enough homes for all these poor little mites  
I know its horrid, but some people believe it is better for a dog to be PTS than to spend weeks or months in a kennel waiting to be rehomed, only to be PTS after that  

I have said before, I would prefer any unwanted dog to be humanely PTS than abandoned, left to fend for itself and possibly die a slow painful death from malnutrition/wounds  

In an ideal world, all dogs would have a loving, caring, foever home - but sadly we are a long way from that

Believe me, I'm well aware what some vets do, but I'm afraid I still believe it's wrong to have a healthy animal PTS.

I have just been informed that there is no dog, she made it all up for attention!!  

Just incase she was telling the truth i have passed on her info and her address to the RSPCA

The weird and wonderful things that go on on other forums is much better than any soap operas or reality TV show    I have read of people who have claimed to have lost relatives, or even been involved themselves, in recent disasters, and it has subsequently been found not to be true  

COL is a breathe of fresh air (and normality) compared with some of the others I have read....... ::  Even so - its worth remembering not to take everything you read at "face value".......
