I was just wondering how Shadow is? I hope the second course of antibiotics was successful.

Hi All thanks for asking bout Shadow

His 2nd anti biotics proved unsuccesful no reduction in the lump at all the Vet wants to do further investigation possible MRI scan but I unsure.

Shadow has been very quiet and we did not know if it was he was ill or the affects of the tablets so we decided to see how he goes for 3 weeks with no tablets and see if lump grows, stays same etc then decide what to do.  3 weeks is up and seems to my eye no reduction or growth of the boney lump, we are due back vets this week to see next step.

As he is not ill as such I may just leave it rather than put him through further tests etc not really sure what to do i dont want him suffering anistetic etc etc if he seems ok in himself.

Any experience or similar things happened to anyone would like to know

Cheers
Gail & Shadow

Sorry to hear that Shadows lump update isn't more positive.

14 years ago I had Cassie an 8 year old unspayed bitch who when I took her for her annual booster and checkup was found to have a lump in her lymph glands. The vet did a biopsy which resulted in a 3 inch wound on her neck and a resulting infection. They tried different antibiotics over the next few weeks and she went from being a fit well dog to one that was quite poorly. As the antibiotics weren't working they decided that she must have pyometra as she hadn't been spayed so performed an emergency spay, again the infection didn't go. By now 6 months had gone by, and we were on the verge of going to the Royal Vet College in Herts to see if they could find out what was wrong with her, but the weekend before she picked up and we cancelled the appointment. However her recovery was short lived and on the Wednesday she collapsed and we had to have her PTS. The cause of her illness was Leukemia.

I often wonder what would have happened had I not let the vet put her through it all, as prior to the biopsy she was very fit. Now I would think twice before letting them do invasive surgery as I'm sure that it accelerated her condition. I know the leukemia would have caught up with her eventually but I wish I hadn't put her through that awful 6 months. I'm a real believer in quality over quantity of life for dogs and I don't think that Cassie had that quality for her last 6 months and that's something I have always felt guilty about.

You will I'm sure do what you feel is best for Shadow. Sending you healing vibes and hugs.  :luv:

I second the last comment, any worries PUSH, PUSH I dont want to scare you, though I am sure you are already in panic mode, but time COULD be of the essence......

Oh and try not to go on the internet to do your own investigations, this will only demoralize you more , once you know for sure what the problem is ..then maybe.

I am keeping everything crossed for you both
