Shadows lump Update

Well we have picked shadow up from vet

Vet says that the xray shows the lump is coming from inside the bone and is made up of bone tissue and we still not sure of what it is biopsy taken and he says because of the nature of it it will be 5 days or so before we know what it is has given him antibiotic and painkillers to take for next five days go to get wound looked at on monday not taken away the lump yet

 he was there all day are he looks so sad he has big purple bandage on his leg and he cant work outwhy he is groggy

Any one any further experience of this type of thing

Poor Shadow :luv:

I hope he's feeling better tomorrow and that the biopsy results are good next week. It's horrid having to wait for results, so take care of yourself and stay positive :bigarmhug:

I've only had experience of lumps that aren't connected to the bone, so no advice from me  :-\

I hope the 5 days pass quickly and that the results are postive ones ;)

Have just read your other thread. I'd be really interested to find out what it is. Obviously hope it's nothing serious and that he gets better very soon. I'm sure this doesn't help in the slightest but I shall put it anyway. Horses get these, in a very similar place to where you say Shadow's is, they're called splints. They're bony growths that usually young horses get, quite often from overworking on hard surfaces. Quite often they are tender but after a week-three weeks rest the horse is usually fine and ready to go back into work. They always have the lump but normally no more pain in it. I know dogs and horses are very different and I know an awful lot more about horses than dogs, but maybe it is something like that?

Anyway, I hope it's nothing too much to worry about and that he is back to his usual Cocker mischief in no time!

Went back today the lump is bigger now so anti biotic not sorting it out vet has prescribed antoher 2 week course of stronger anti biotics and if there is no reduction or it grows more he needs a full body MRI to see what causing it.  ( I know he definately not had a trauma to it) and if this was the case it would not continue to grow at the rate it is so we still no further on.  I stongly believe that Shadow is not himself very subdued so I very worried any experiences anyone

No experience of this, but just wanted to let you know that you and Shadow are both very much in my thoughts. 

Guess you are feeling very frustrated that despite all the tests/medication it feels like you are no nearer to knowing what the ******* is going on?  If you are concerned about the slow pace of treatment by your vet and the fact that the lump continues to grow and Shadow is now becoming subdued I would push for a referral for a second opinion - doesn't mean you have to stop current stronger antibiotics, but at least you will feel that the referral for MRI or orthopaedic opinion is not being delayed - if the stronger anti-b's work, you can always cancel MRI? (sorry, have made assumption you are insured  :dunno:)
