Poo question
« on: March 25, 2011, 09:15:18 PM »
Not sure if i'm posting in the right place.
Connie has had Hills science plan and the vet suggested she go on the lighter food with some raw veg added. I have gradually moved her onto it but i find
that her poos just crumble when i try to pick them up.  She also seems to have a fair bit of wind which she never had before.
I have to add that she has always been healthy and has very few upset tummy's normally only after drinking dirty lake water (she's 3 1/2).
Can anyone offer any advice as to why the poo is so crumbly and is there anything i can add or do to make it more normal.
Thanks

A lot of grain filler, which usually makes up the bulk of the "light" diets, will make poo crumbly. Also may depend on what vegetables you are feeding her. Ditto for the wind

Crumbly poos are not a worry in themselves, but I'd want to aim for something firmer as their anal glands are emptied by firmer poos

Thanks
I'm now not sure what to do, whether to change to a new food or somehow add something to what she has.  The carrots i'm adding do not seem
to make a huge difference, and as you mention her anal glands could become a problem which then leads to discomfort for Connie.
Thanks for your reply

Hi, could you explain why your vet has recommended a change of food?  has Connie been having digestive problems or is it for weight control ?

Weight control i'm afraid.
She is a greedy little girl and i have been having quite a few health problems in the last year which has affected my ability to walk her as much as before, she has also been spayed which has also affected her weight gain.  She is slightly over weight so he recommended the lighter food.
I am hoping my health problems will improve which will enable me to walk her more often which will definitely help.  But i feel that the poo just isnt right as it's just too crumbly.
