Hmm,it all depends on what smells are about.

When we are walking through the woods to get to the big open park she will lag behind sniffing every blade of grass, piece of poo  ph34r or general forest debris and i call her to hurry up.

But if she gets the scent of something interesting (dont ask me what) she trots ahead like a little steam train, head down and quartering.

Pavement walks are half and half. The slow bit is sniffing every lamp post and wall, the quick bit is when she smells food and she will always snatch it before i even see it.  >:(

She gets impatient with me though. If we are walking along and it has started raining she hurries ahead and if i'm walking to slow she comes back to me,stands there and looks me in the eye and does two big "woof woofs" turns round and marches on ahead again.I think i'm being told "hurry up me hairs getting wet"  :lol2:
People laugh at me because I'm different, but I laugh at them because they are all the same.

Smudge just generally mooches around really. Smelling all the different pongs about, getting fussed by other dog's hoomans.
Remembering Smudge 23/11/2006 - 3/8/2013, Branston 30/8/14 - 28/10/22, and Minstrel 24/6/13 - 13/8/24 all now at the Bridge.

Nerys (worker/show mix) zooms round the field in huge circles, but if she gets on a scent she is off like a rocket.  She has learnt to come back, thank goodness!  On lead she trots along sniffing the hedgerows.

:lol2: :lol2: forgot to mention the weather! If it's even looking like it's going to rain then the brakes go on. She is seriously not happy if it starts raining when we are out, I get told off :shades:

Mine are both show types - on lead at first they are raring to go and try and charge in front, but get distracted by the lovely sniffs they find, or litter/dead birds they try and eat  :020:.  On the home straight they pick up the pace again as they want the bikkie they are given for sitting nicely in the hall while I take their harnesses off and towel them down if it's been wet.

Off lead Charlie sort of trots around, Dexter runs around like a loopy hare. They also play and chase each other and dive in streams, my favourite when they're not playing is when they trot along together with their sides touching and looking at other, it's so sweet  :luv:

(This is probably more for show types than working)

On a walk, does your cocker zoom ahead like a rocket, or lag behind at snails pace?

Our lunch time walk today was only a mile, but it took over two hours, simply because Toby spends all his time sniffing.   :005:  I swear if I didn't hurry him along, we would be out longer than that.   :o

If there's nothing to grab his attention, he just toddles along, about 50 yards behind me all the time.  I have to keep stopping to see what he's up to and it would be so much easier if he was ahead of me.

Anyone else have a slowcoach cocker?

Lily, my first girl was like this Mel.  She went for a 'sniff'', not a walk.  :005:  Luis is like it too, but he combines his sniffing with a good run...

Ollie just goes for it.....running as fast as a train.

Gracie will be joining Ollie I think...judging by her last walk. Xx
No longer in my arms, but forever in my heart, my girls at the Bridge, Lily and Freya. Xx

Stella (working cockerX) and Wilf (showtype) zoom around backwards and forwards sniffing here and there - Roobs, completely blind and usually offlead goes at different paces some just sniffing at eveyr blade of grass and others she runs with a mission in mind. They all like to play games of 'find it' though while am out walking

George and Ozzie depending on their mood walk behind and in front sniffing everything. George sometimes runs round in a big circle and chases Ozzie who tells him off. They both have to run to the other if the other appears to have a more interesting smell. Then Ozzie will occasionally bolt off like a turbo cocker thru a hedge after rabbits which is a pain.

Ours are working cockers and mostly zoom around, though it's weather dependent.  Genie plods when it's raining.  They're good at waiting to see which way I'm going and wait up for me.  If they lag behind in hunting birds mode, I don't wait for them.  They know they have to catch up.  I've come to realise they don't want to lose me any more than I want to lose them.  Alfie mostly sticks around me as he carries a ball at all times and it's his goal in life to get me to throw it.  Genie's record for a bog off is 11 minutes but it ony happens very rarely and we're in a safe place.

William hoovers the ground for any tasty titbits while we are walking through town. Depending on which walk we do, he will poggle along the shoreline eating bits of seaweed, covering the entire beach until he has sussed out anything that is remotely edible! On a fell walk, he gobbles up rabbit poo as if it is going out of fashion, and constantly cocks his leg even when nothing is coming out! Twiggy at the beach just races headlong into the water with a running dive, and on a country walk follows William in everything he does, including cocking her leg (in a rather peculiar fashion) wherever he has been. Crazy dogs!

Bingley races ahead. Turns around. Barks impatiently because I am clearly not walking fast enough. Darcey trots about mostly but races off for squirrels and smells. (both show)
