Gosh even more confused now!! I am just worried that they won't gel, I couldn't bear to have to give the puppy back or to someone else. Like I said its like coco is human if a dog comes around her she will just move on, she has only snapped a couple of times if they have sniffed her too long. I was hoping with it being a baby she might tolerate her more?? Confused :(

There's just no way of knowing beforehand. If you decide to go ahead I think it's more likely that they will get on than not get on, although it may take time, and pretty unlikely that it would be so bad that you'd have to rehome the puppy. It happens, but it's rare.

As you can see from the comments above most dogs will at least learn to be tolerant of each other and many will become best buddies.

Good luck with your decision.

I would second what Elaine said about not necessarily expecting them to be best mates and/or cuddle up together, Rodaidh gets on really well with both Tilly and Caoimhe but they don't snuggle up or share beds -

I'd agree with this, I was hoping our girls would cuddle up together but they never do. I don't really know why I thought they would, just a romantic image I suppose! But they do have some sort of bond, and it seems to be improving with time. I guess it is up to them, we can't impose our wishes on them, but I don't regret getting a second dog.
Julie, Ruby and Jem. And never forgetting our first precious dog, Cassie x

We got Tilly who is now 11 months old when Erin was 6yrs and I just love having 2 cockers. They are totally different in every way...Erin is very quiet and laid back who likes to spend her time sleeping or being fussed over by humans wheras Tilly is a in yer face type of girl...very bouncy and vocal into the bargain...she loves the company and playing with other dogs. When we brought Tilly home Erin was none too amused at having this little pup who wanted to spend her time hanging from Erins ears or trying to entice her to play...which she was not having any part of. In time she became accepting of the situation and she will allow Tilly to lie beside her in bed (for a short time only) and will play chase sometimes on walks but on the whole they just get on with things...doing what they want to do wether the other is interested or not.
Every now and again they groom each other which is quite sweet and have also had occassional spats which i ignore..never anything serious.
However I have noticed if for any reason one is not at home ie at groomer or having 1-1 training then they both spend that time looking for the other.

Any chance you could 'borrow' a friend's dog for a few days to see how your's reacts?
