Decent Coat And Filling Out?
« on: May 13, 2005, 08:32:06 AM »
Barley is now almost 10 months old.I know he needs to fill out but i bumped into another Cocker at the park today and i was really shocked.
He stood next to the other dog and looked so wierd next to her!.
He is quite slim and gawky looking with a shortish coat

When should he begin to fill out and get a decent coat??.
His toes remind the kids of the Grinch!

Indie is one and a half and still hasn't a full coat. Hamish is like a furry teddy and he's nine months, so I think all dogs are different, and it may vary tremendously.

Wouldn't worry about his coat - Saffi is 19mths and has a very thin coat and the slightest touch of feathering - Barley looks like a yeti compared to her :D  :D
Tia's coat is like Barley's and she is 22mths, while Max is a huge furball :D

Some are bigger built than others and some have loads of coat and others have hardly any, they are all different I wouldn't worry about it  :D

Hi, Bella is the same! In fact she has less coat than your little boy.  She too is 10 months.  I trimmed her feet the other day because she had grinch feet too  :D They look much better now, not like wooly boots

She has nice ears but not as long as they should be, and her coat gets tufty when wet.

I've been on here loads of times asking when she will look like a cocker but everyone always says they are all different and take different amounts of time.

I dont think she will ever get a long coat and her leg hair is very fine. short at the front like a lab and feathered at the back like a boarder collie.  She's black by the way.

Abby was the same until 12 months  since her last season she has turned into a wooly mammoth the only place that she hasn't got much coat is her belly

Buddy at 4 months is starting to look a bit fuzzy. But where his coat used to be really silky, it seems a bit dull now, and slightly coarser. Is that normal?

Also he used to have 4 lovely white eyebrow whiskers (one on one side, three on the other - I think there were some black ones too, but it's hard to tell), they have now all fallen out and I can't see any replacements. Is that normal too?

He's fed on Burns, and gets a few treats each day (pigs ears, hide even a bit of pedigree mixer for training - plan to use the burns for that too when this is all gone)

Sorry, not meaning to hijack this thread.

And I think Barley looks fantastic :P . Think of all that trimming you don't have to do!

I remeber feeling like you when Jessie was 6 months old and I wanted a long coated cocker!  ;)

However now I have an almost 2 yr old spayed cocker who for an orange roan has quite alot of coat and I wish she had her non woolley coat back  :(

I am really struggling with the grooming of her and her yeti legs and feet and straggly tummy is a nightmare to deal with...she won't sit still for me and let me brush her properley. She has matts under her front arm pits where her harness rubs and also has smaller but tighter matts on the inside of her back legs which she won't let me near! She screams, literally, if I try! I can just about keep on top her back, head and so far down the sides of her ribs.....its a poor attempt!

Barleys coat will grow as he gets older, if he is meant to have a longer coat. Just think tho....if her goes for a swim you wont have a soggy smelly mess to deal with, a quick towel dry and he will be all done  :)

Cheers

Janey
